Workshop content-related question
Some of these addons on this site require additional "Workshop Content". Does that workshop content have to be extracted (via gmad addon extractor) and placed in our server's "addons" folder? Or will it work if it's just added to our workshop collections? Because I've been putting server content folders in my addons folder for a while, but as of late, whenever I subscribe to these content packs, the don't appear as ".gma" files in my client's "garrysmod\addons" folder anymore, like they used to- they don't appear at all. But they still seem to work ok without them being extracted and added to my server's "garrysmod\addons" folder AND the content being added to my workshop collection.
Do I have the right idea here? Because if so, I can save quite a bit of space on my computer (since I keep a backup of my server on my computer).
Thanks
You do not have to upload the content to your server. You just have to add the addons to the workshop collection.
Since the January 2020 update workshop addons don't land in steamapps/common/GarrysMod/garrysmod/addons, instead they are saved in steamapps/workshop/content/4000.
If you extract the workshop content and upload it to your server + still have the addon in your collection, then your server has the same data twice. Workshop addons get saved in /steam_cache/content/4000 on the server.
So what does this mean for player models? I assume those have to be placed in the addons folder? Or is this rule mainly for gmodstore addon content?
If the playermodels are already on the workshop, you don't have to upload them to the addons folder. Just add the addon to your workshop collection. This counts for all workshop addons.
Okay, thanks for the info :)
