ScriptFodder job submitting (tips n' shit)
#Intro
Apart from shits and giggles and memes, this is another serious thread. I talked to some people about recent events with jobs that usually Over-Budget things and generally get scammed in a way. This is just a small guide I decided to whip up to try and get some people filled in about what they need to price their shit on. (Seriously $50 for a CSS re-color is over priced).
#What budget means
Budget is a SET price you have, the budget is suppose to be how much you're going to pay for a product, it's not suppose to be a super-super low place holder for money, so put an actual budget. Flexible budgets are allowed in this case, such as if the price goes up due to the work, the world calls that "Over-budgeting". So please stop putting $5 place holders and saying "WE CAN GIB U MORE MONAY" and actually add a budget that you're willing to pay for the product at Max. (Of course expect it to go higher if your job is big).
Also for the applicants, be reasonable, don't just go all the way to the top, if the job is small and the job creator is ignorant and sets a high budget, have some common decency in you and apply for a reasonable price.
#Best way to handle payments (until they revamp the job section with the details that where explained)
Once the applicant says they're done with your job, test run it, don't ask for it to be sent to you first, ask for them to set up a simple server (port forward, or test, test servers are usually $4/mo) and test drive their work from there. Or if it's a website, simply ask them to upload it to their own website (or a free one, free hosting is a thing). After test driving it and seeing that everything is working just fine you can know that they did the work and they're trusted to have money sent to them then the addon/website/map/etc sent to you.
If you want to be extra secure (map creators) cause there is a way to you know, won't spill the beans. Record your self going through the map n' shit then send it to the job creator.
This is the safest way to ensure both parties comply (paying and sending the content).
#Descriptive
You should be as descriptive as possible with how you want the base of your job to be created. We know a ton of people here love stealing unique design that's why you save that part for the actual Steam Conversation. For example a HUD "I'd like a HUD to be made for me specifically for the DarkRP gamemode it'll be a full re-work of the original HUD with my design which I will provide after you apply and get accepted." Now if you're going to do jobs this way, have blue prints not everyone can imagine what you do, you have to put your ideas on paper(paint or something) and show your applicant what you actually want.
Apart from having Unique stuff you do not one described if you want something general made give all the detail you can on it instead of saying "aylmao can u make dis? im lazi and can't" people'll bash you on the site for doing that along with you won't get applicants cause they have no fucking idea what you're asking them to make.
The more descriptive you are the better chance at getting someone that is trustworthy and actually smart and experienced at what they do.
##The Jobs' Category
Now there are all sorts of Garry's Mod jobs that can be done here. Web, Lua, GUI, VGUI, etc.. we're going to focus on the main ones we see. And if you have a unique job don't be afraid to comment asking, I'm 99% sure someone will be willing to help you out on your budget.
##Research
This is the most important step I see a shit-ton of people skip. It's called Researching, it's probably the most useful tool you can use to this day and probably till the end of days. Researching allows you to gather as much information as you can before (or after) you submit your job. That being you want to learn a programming language, research a bit of lessons or hear how some people learnt their shit. If your job is really simple and is probably already released to the public you'll have people telling you shitty memes about "Haven't you heard of google yet?" and so forth.
##Common Job budgets
This will mainly list the ESTIMATE area of budget you should price your jobs at. It's the main reason why this thread was made, cause some budgets are disgustingly over-budgeted and the job creator gets scammed. I'll try to simplify it and dumb it down as much as I can.
- "Setups" ~Free-min to $5-max
What are set ups?: Setups are the type of jobs people make cause they're pretty much lazy, or the set up is very complex. Someone will be hired (for some reason) to set up a server/website/admin thing/you name it. Setups are the most disgusting thing this website gets and people will bid the maximum budget, and the ignorant job creators will raise that budget high in the sky.
- "Common Customization" ~Free-min to $5-max
What are common customization's? Common Customization's are basically someone changing the color on your website to a different color or changing 1 element in a HUD. This is the second most over-budgeted item on the list. For example: I had a friend tell me someone attempted to bid to re-color the Global Bans (by bearwolly) for $40.00 USD, that's right $40. Luckily enough I was there to tell him it was a totally scam and if it was just a simple re-color it should be done for free or maybe $1 if he's generous. But aside from that you should find out what you want customized, if it falls into this category common then you shouldn't place it over $10 even then you should use research and try it your self.
- HUD creation $5-min to $15-max (or more depending on if it's actually advanced which 90% aren't)
What is a HUD creation? HUD stands for Heads Up Display it's what you see on the screen that displays information such as Ammo, Health, Armour, etc.. HUDs are fairly easy to create and are a huge category inside the over-budgeting. People will stop at nothing to say how great they can make a HUD and you pay $20 for probably what could have been created by a kinder-gardener.
- ~~Website creation $5
or$10-min to $15or$25-max (Depending on the amount of work that went into it and design)~~
~~This is the one that hurts me the most. People will put up a job for their community website to be created by someone. Web creation jobs are very, very easy to scam cause of all the free-templates and shit that are out now-a-days, try getting someone who is actually trusted and can do it on their own efficiently. Anyways back on topic: this is the hugest target for scammers as like I've said there are templates and everything out there that can be used, you could be spending $50 for a site when some Frenchie just added a startbootstrap to your site and mybb, that's the hugest scam alert ever, and I've seen it happen, it was disgusting. Please be cautious while making these types of jobs.~~
Website creation can vary now due to all the web developers finally ascending more than we did 2 years ago, just always make sure to look out for templates, you can easily find them in the css files or even the top of the website file, if someone is selling an html template, chances are you're getting scammed.
- Loading screens $5-min to $10-max (Seriously, loading screens can only hold so much for a perfect 100% height)
Okay, this is the god of all the scam jobs. Loading screens are the easiest things to make, hell they're all over github. People will bid on peoples' job around $20 for a fucking slide show and their picture in the middle. It's horrible to see people getting scammed that way. Make sure you know who you're hiring too, the loading screens I've seen made by people who scammed the job creator have been horrific, I wish I had evidence to show but sadly don't.
##In Conclusion
In conclusion, there are shit tons of scammers out there, sadly the mods can't get them all, nor even touch some of them cause of the ignorance of the job creator. I really help this helped some people out that where thinking about pricing their loading screen job for $50.
If you have any questions on your job, feel free to reply below and I'm 99% sure someone who knows what they're doing will reply with a great estimated answer. (Also tell me if I made any errors cause I made this at 1:00 AM :v)
#Maps I decided to give them their own category since they're not really involved in the programming type category. (Level design category if you wanna get technical)
Maps can take a time-frame of 1-5 days (depending on size) or weeks/2(+) months depending on size and required amount of detail. (Good map creators take time and make sure every little detail is taken care of).
Editing map can take from hours to days, again depending on the size. Or it can take a week if you want to completely re-do it or something. Anyways anyone with Common Sense will get how long it takes, and I'm not going to explain in every detail the time frames.
##Map Jobs
ScriptFodder has always been a place for Garry's Mod server owners to request maps to be made for them. The maps usually end up in the DarkRP type category (80% of them). (Or "Roleplay" category, seriously all other "RP" gamemodes are darkrp technically but modified). Anyways back on topic, DarkRP maps usually can take weeks/months to create due to their size, and if the map creator like we said above is experienced and a detail freak (which is a great thing if you are one) then it'll take time, but in the end it'll look pretty, so worth.
##Map Prices
###Maps made from scratch
- DarkRP Town maps $100-min to $250-max (Of course depending on time, dedication, detail and size)
DarkRP town maps are "Medium" sized maps usually the size of a common DarkRP rp_town.. type map. These can take at least 1-5 weeks to create (or more depending on the size and detail the creator puts into it). Remember, the more detail the better the map comes out, rushing a map creator is probably the worst thing to do, unless you like shitty maps.
- DarkRP City maps $200-min to $350-max (Again, depending on detail, size, and time)
DarkRP city maps are "Large (or extra large)" sized maps usually the size of "EVO City" which is huge. These maps can range from several months, and likewise it all depends on the detail put in it, but this one requires a lot more. Usually a team makes City maps which cuts the time frame because you got a helping hand. Someone doing a City map solo, can take several months, (depending on detail and size, etc..). You'll want to be flexible with your budget if you want a nicely designed map (Usually over $350 if it's Extra Large along with very nice detailing, optimization, etc..)
- TerrorTown maps (small maps p much) $50-min to $100-max
TerrorTown maps (or maps alike) are considered Small maps due to the fact you're in a death match and you don't want a huge ass map with players getting annoyed at finding the other player for 2 hours cause it's a city. It can take days to weeks to make one of these maps, depending on the assets stated above. These maps are relatively cheaper to make cause of their size and the amount of work that goes into it.
###Map edits
- DarkRP Town map edits $25-min to $100-max (Depending on assets, this goes for all below)
Editing a DarkRP town map isn't usually a big job, but the prices can scale to different ranges depending on what you need. For example a small little addition like an extra building would be like $10, while adding a whole new street can range from $20 to $50 depending on size and detail.
- DarkRP City map edits $50-min to $100-max
Editing a DarkRP city map can be big or small, just like the DarkRP town editing it varies on its assets that you want added. I'll give another example for this one too. If you want a new street added, with sky scrapers and stuff, depending on the amount of buildings and design in them it can vary from $25 to $50. If you want a whole new town added to your city that can range from $50 to $100, basically like making a DarkRP town map, but a bit smaller I guess. You can only go so big.
- TerrorTown map edits $10-min to $30-max
Editing a TerrorTown map isn't such a big job due to the fact TTT maps are suppose to be small ranged maps, usually to fit 20 to 30 players, not 70. An example would be: You wanted a new T trap, that would be about $5 (or $10 if you want a T room I guess). There isn't much editing to do in a TTT map due to the fact they're so small compared to DarkRP town and city maps.
(More will be added as it progresses)
Added some new stuff
- Maps
- What budget means
-Safest way to pay
Good idea with this thread. If I may suggest (although much less common): player models. Whether it's just edits or a completely new model from scratch, I always see people asking for models for outrageously low prices (e.g, there's a job posted right now asking for player models from scratch for $10).

Might be worth it to explain that for HUDs the most they can expect is a video demonstration, as setting up a test server for them to join would give them access to the code.
Thanks for putting up this guide, by the way.

I'll try and make a video, or at least an image guide, might take some time due to I'm moving to my girlfriends' place and it'll take 6 weeks for me to actually drive there, but I'll give it a time since I'll still have my laptop and some wifi on the way, hopefully enough to upload images :v.
How much would you recommend that I put my budget on for a Scoreboard? (I'm gonna put up a job for a custom hud + A matching good looking scoreboard), but not sure what my budget should be.

What gamemode and features are you planning on having with it?
General TTT Scoreboard (reskin) would be around ~$10-15
New DarkRP scoreboard (with no extra features than the default) ~$10-$20

The gamemode is Deathrun.
Your a saint Lunaversity, some of the scammers I see on here. A while ago someone commented on a job for a basic custom hud he said he wanted $25 I thought it was a bloody joke.

Yeah, pretty much is, people who ask for out-ragouts prices can't be banned, but they're definite sharks.

I'll fix it when I travel it's taking me 5 minutes to load the page then 5 more to even reply
Another thing to add, if I see one more...
Join my TS atIPHERE, or add me on Steam for more details
... I will smack Luna. Post whatever details you need in the job page itself, if it's a design you don't need to post the design but at least give an idea of what features the HUD will need to have so you get someone who knows they can do it.
Nobody should have to go after you to get more details, all the important ones should be right there in the page we offer you.

Am I wrong for thinking this job: https://scriptfodder.com/jobs/view/10872 is worth only $5?
This guy was demanding $15 for this job. http://imgur.com/rjis2Oz
I mean I've posted jobs before and overpriced some things but really..$15 for this?
