Gmodstore is dying?
I'm not part of GMS Discord or anything so I am usually out of the loop regarding anything going on here but I still check this site on the weekly basis. So, my question is what going on with Gmod store? It feels like more and more staff are leaving and people are posting less than ever on the forums. I mean, forums activity is quite low that in off topic ( I at least ) can see topics from 2017-mid 2018 at the top. Garry's mod isn't dying anytime soon or anything judging by the number of active players playing right now so you know, I'm concerned and all. It kinda feels that everything gone a bit down since the site upgrade to v3, even tho it looks amazing and forums are rather good looking.
I guess the title is a bit clickbaity, but I would really like to hear other peoples opinions.
The Discord is quite active, the forums have a little less activity than usual. I'm not sure why that is, but it seems to be purely affecting the forums. Sales are not any worse than previous years, some months are actually even better than previous years. Reports, tickets, submissions and all of that are as high as ever.
I think the ban appeals and reports being done through Site Tickets takes away a lot from the forum, so it seems less active
Business is always slow in January. People are still enjoying snow, presents, and maybe loved ones. Also the new year could have an effect on people to do what they've always wanted to do with there life. Should start picking up the slack soon enough.
Glad to hear your input regarding the situation.
True, but what im also trying to say is that some of the notable staff member left all of the sudden, some that were you could say top dogs went for some reason to '' competition '' and that also made me really wonder what exactly is going on. Im more of a lurker here then a super frequent posters but it seemed to me everyone were buds and all. Obviously I won't name any staff nor any competition as I think that wouldn't be fair/nice.
I just hope activity will hopefully go back to the 2016/17 era, there were some nice posts posted back then, good times.
There has only been one staff member who has left recently, with the exception of Matt who is just retiring from an administrative position and caretaker of GmodStore due to having another job that takes up all his time, and he doesn't want to be dealing with GmodStore in his free time.
I don't think there's anything to worry about :)
January looks like it's about to top December for me. December was my best selling month as well.
Let me share some global purchase statistics that illustrate what months are the best, as well as the fact 2018 was a better year than 2017 overall
2017

2018

Overall 2018 was a better year, but wasn't as great in Sep/Oct/Nov as 2017.
January and July/August are always the best months however.
Indeed.
There are other factors, I've increased VCMod price a teeny bit to recoup for other losses, in the end I earn a bit more with lower just a tiny bit lower sale numbers.
There threads of "is gmod/gmodstore dying" has been popping up every few months since 2012 I remember.
I have been a bit less active due to starting uni/ real life job and what not. This is just what happens, people move to other stuff, new people move in, take over.
Is it just me that always cringes when they see the words "gmod" and "dying" in the same sentence?
I strongly believe that for as long as gmod is around, so will gmodstore.
In regards to the better known staff leaving. I guess it's just down to how people move on in life? You're not expected to be committed to this kinda thing forever. Even with "real" jobs, you normally don't keep the same one your whole life. As you progress as a person, you venture into new things and leave old ones behind. This applies even more when (in the case of the mods) it's done out of passion and not finance. I once saw Marcuz say something like "gmodstore is a stepping stone for a lot of people" and I do strongly agree with that.
I mean sales wise it great obviously, Gmod won't die anytime soon, right now it on the 12th place of most played games on Steam right now. I was thinking more community wise, maybe I am going crazy or something, but sometimes it feels you could do a betting who will be the next one to post a farewell post or something.
Edit, title was more in a clickbaity way to gather an audience to start a bit posting activity, guess it worked well.
Edit;Edit
I can understand that people come and go and whatever they do, I don't know, I was just worried a bit. That's all.
