What does this error mean?

Hey,

So I have been recieving this error in my servers console lately:

Warning! A net message (tsayc) is already started! Discarding in favor of the new message!

I believe this may be causing connecting issues/lag spikes? Random addons cause this message every now and then.

Thanks

So, taking a shot look, here's a beginner friendly explanation:

NetMessages are a way to send information from the server to the client and vice-versa.

Imagine a message in a bottle:

  1. You create a net message with a specific name (aka you take a bottle)
  2. You write information in said message (put a letter or sth inside)
  3. You send the message (throw it into the sea/river)

The error you're getting just means, that for some reason, the last step hasn't been done, so the code is starting again, disregarding the previous bottle, that still stands besides you, but hasn't been thrown into the sea. Nothing really troublesome.

I've looked into it, the addon that seems to be causing it, is ULib. Some people have already pointed out the issue on the comments, so far no solution:

Can this cause lag spikes? Maybe. It doesn't send a lot of information but if I'm correct, it does so up to 240 times, in this case it might cause a short lag.

Are there any error messages right bevor your get this warning? Could be both in the server's console and in the clients console, so take a look at both of them.

Are there any steps to trigger this warning?

I don't know what tsay does, but if you don't use it, one could easily disable it.
