Strange server "crash" issue.

I am looking to see if any other servers have experienced this, or heard about this issue, and if someone has a solution.

A large amount of people just froze in place on the server including me, and timed out after getting the auto-disconnect message. However, the other half of the server remained online without anything happening to them. The players who experienced a "server crash" cannot see the server online, or cannot directly join off of their friends who remained on the server. Is this a known issue that can be solved? This is the first time the server went through something like this.

Edited UPDATE: It was GMCHosting that had an error on their side.
