xAdmin - A BTEC ULX (And soon to also be a BTEC xAdmin? o.0)
Hey all. This is the first kinda good open source project I've done so I ask you not to roast me too hard. But I do enjoy constructive criticism.
What is xAdmin?
I present, xAdmin. A simplistic administration tool. To quote my GitHub:
xAdmin tries to be lightweight and simplistic by only providing the core features needed. xAdmin doesn't even have a User Interface, it is 100% chat/console driven.
I think that sums it up pretty well. xAdmin isn't there to be a direct competitor with ULX. ULX has a lot of features that xAdmin doesn't. I'm not here to sell you on why you should ditch ULX and join me over on xAdmin. I just wanna give it a little exposure in case someone stumbles across this and finds it's exactly what they're looking for.
I made xAdmin initially for personal use. I was sick of ULX and it's bloatware. There's a lot of stuff that ULX comes with that I never used. And some of it was an unneeded use of those valuable server resources. So I came up with xAdmin. It's super lightweight and basic. It should be seen as much more of a "base" or "framework" of an admin mod that you should take and build on. Sure, it works 100% out of the box and you can get the job done with it. But you'd find it much more useful if you were to style it with your own stuff.
Why is there no UI?
To be honest, because I completely suck at UI lol. Most people use ULX chat commands anyways, the UI was just an added bonus. I don't think I've ever once gone into the ULX UI just to freeze someone. I've always done it the smart way and keyboard worriered the chat with my speedy typing. So I thought "fuck it" and decided against a UI. All the commands work just as well and banning isn't actually that much scarier. Give it a day and you'll be a pro!
Where can I find it?
I have a GitHub set up over here. It's pretty basic and I'm trying to update it with small stuff in my spare time. But I'm pretty busy these days.
Wow, this sucks!
Please, tell me why! I encourage constructive criticism and contributions. If you see a better way of doing something, it take 10 minutes to make a pull request :P.
A love letter to Xnator
Sorry hun! I didn't mean to snipe your name. I've been selling a beefed up version of this privately for a while now. Kinda funny that our systems couldn't be any more apposing. You're trying to create a mass use all round xAdmin and mine is suppose to be stripped back and super lightweight. Love you 64 Love you 64,000 xoxo
Gotta say after using it for the past 3 months, its been one of the best admin mods I have used.
Good work!
Would be funnier if you said "Love you 64,000"
Good luck and don't steal my naming convention of sticking an "x" in front of everything!!
Fixed :P From my inside people and what I've seen your xAdmin looks promising. I'll be sure to buy it as a sorry. <3
How much were you selling this for privately before
Pennies. Tbh. Normally nothing more than $15-20. I charged money more for the sake of not just giving it out for "free". The version I sold came with some extra stuff that I stripped back in here just so the people I sold it to didn't feel scammed.
rip d3a ❤
Is there any console command to set yourself as superadmin etc? didn't find it in the wiki.
xadmin setgroup {Player} {Usergroup}
Something that I've been meaning to do is have an option so the first person to join after install gets superadmin. I know how inconvenient it can be when setting it up on something like singleplayer. Will get round to it soon, I promise <3
"I preset" haha, you only compared this to ULX is there a reason I should use this over SG (serverguard) or any other admin mods? I think this looks great though!
It was compared with ULX because that's the most common example. This doesn't exist to 'compete' with any administration mod, it obviously has much less features than your usual administration addon.
The only reason you'd use this over ULX or SG at the moment is if you wanted a simpler, more light-weight administration mod that isn't cluttered with useless features. It might require your staff team not be 100% brain dead though, i know that can be a bit of an issue on some servers.
Could I request two features?
Color support for, now everything is white. If you jail people with ULX or serverguard it shows stuff in colors which is pretty cool, which brings me to the next point.
Please add jail command.
Other than that I think this is super :D
How come you need the jail command, why isnt freezing with timer enough? :)
Even then, I think any kinda "in-game timeout" system is a bit unneeded. You're basically just forcing the player to AFK for a few minutes, not really a "punishment". Something like a warn is a much more viable solution and actually has a mark to their record. I'm against "in-game timeouts" as a whole, but I guess if it's really that wanted, a jail command is doable.
Owain, I got some issues sometimes after the server restart falcos prop protection doesn't recognize xadmins as admins/superadmins, also the prop limit does not work. If I could add you on steam that would be great so I can report bugs, however its a super script!
The banning is also really hard, I can't put brackets or anything and sometimes it doesnt say anything so I don't know why they are not getting banned. The only thing I have found that works is if they are online and I can use their names.
I'd like it if I could do !ban "STEAMID" "reason" "0" for instance.
If you add me on steam we can talk there and try resolve any issues you're having! Give me a poke there when you're around and we'll figure it out.
