My thoughts on Digital Rights Management
All content with Digital Rights Management (DRM) on Garry's Mod should be boycotted and avoided at all costs. My community is not a second-class citizen in the world of Garry's Mod.
The price is already high and insulting enough to be forced to pay for content that everyone else already has, but compromising my game server, and stooping down to relying on a third party external resource for basic functionality? Forget it.
Any developer who has the audacity to lower their standards so far down -- to include DRM on their supposedly useful and quality content -- will never receive any money or an iota of respect from my community or I.
I feel so strongly on this, I had to post it.
It's a tremendous shame that I have to ride the same cramped, ugly boat as those arrogant, selfish, egotistic "community owners" who would leak and distribute a developer's blood, sweat and tears of work.
What are your personal thoughts? At least I hope my input was a good thought for you to read.
Drm is fine if it works. ScriptEnforcer was trash and didn't work If you use something like securegmod, As a customer you won't have to do some retarded shit like "registering your server".

We don't care.

i mean, really, people complained when i used SE, but there was no alternative so yeah, now securegmod is better in many ways so it's not going make make us stop using DRM
Also, stop with the DRM drama, if we use DRM, we have reasons for it, so complaining is not going to change shit
nvm this kid is just dumb lmao

It's like the fat lady asking "I WANNA SEEEE THE MANAGER REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"
All I heard was blah blah DRM drama blah blah.
We don't care.

Nice alt account you just made their bro.
What alt account? Show me. Are you trying to start drama because you cannot accept other's opinions?
Hey look at me, i'm telling shit so i need to make alts/call friends to rate my own posts "Agree"

I have nothing to hide, ever. I've always been an open book, because I'm not fearful of doing what's right, such as posting this thread.
Am I a little kid?

I don't know anyone who doesn't agree. The only people who wouldn't agree are those developers that have to deal with a customer-base of sh*tty server owners.

Alright, here's the thing though. Phoenix's ShitEnforcer really made people hate DRM because it inconveniences the customer for no reason. Now, even though I've abandoned the ARCLoad project, it actually provided some benefits for the customers!
- It was completely seamless. Your unique addon ID was generated when you downloaded the addon from ScriptFodder, and the server-side of things only freaked out when there was too many servers with non-similar names. If there were, I automatically got an e-mail notifying me of the situation. It was then my decision to block the addon or not.
- It also attempted to detect any attempts at being bypassed or edited (though there were many false-positives with this)
- In ARCLoad 1.1, if you ever had a bug with any of my addons, I could push live updates to your server, instantly fixing any bugs that you might come across, (it even worked without re-starting the server!)
However, there were some notable drawbacks:
- My paranoia about leakers lead me to create my own obfuscator, which obfuscated the code so good that it ate system ram and ran really slowly.
- It took a long period of time for the client to download all the client-side lua files via net messages.
Anyway, I mostly blame Phoenix for people's hate on DRM. A well-implemented and well-used system can work really well for everyone. But, unfortunately leaker paranoia and the greed of one asshole lead to very shitty implementations of DRM, and look where we are now >_>
Edited tldr: I did DRM before it was cool, and I did it better than everyone else. Phoenix is an asshole and ScriptEnforcer was shit.

https://www.gmodstore.com/users/view/76561198321352856 Seems to be another Republic member was banned. You do realize there's dozens upon dozens of people in my community? It doesn't mean they are Smurf. Smurf is a participant contributor and unofficial satellite server handler, he does not represent our image in the slightest. Others are not responsible for what Smurf does.
Unban Simple if you please.
it's outrageous that you ban people because you think they are smurf.
omg you're so racist
