( Job Employers (Offers) ) Scripters with Mic, or Scripters with No Mic
This is the second time this has actually happened to me, and I just wanted to bring it up because reasons.. ( Totally not triggered ) This is basically just a rant or whatever. :b
Anyway, do people actually believe that just because you have no mic, that you're really untrustworthy and that people with mics are more trustworthy? Isn't that like, a really really big GREY area?
In my opinion, it'd be a lot easier for trolls and troublemakers to get Server Access, or any kinda of Access at all if they used mic because of how gullible people are that just because the voice sounds friendly or "well mannered". I usually always find it better to work in Text rather than Voice. Maybe some people just are lazy and would rather talk than Type. ( I know a lot of these people unfortunately.. but that doesn't mean I should have to use Voice. )
Bottom line, why do you choose someone to use/have a Mic? How does it add to the safety that your server (If you foolishly give access to) will be safe from trouble making people on GmodStore or anywhere in the community, or even safe from bad scripts that could REALLY cause trouble later on down the road. ex. I set myself a rank hidden in code that people who don't script would have no idea how to find. <<- I legit don't doubt there are people like that who do this.
ps. I may have posted in the wrong area, but I couldn't find another area to post in. xP
pss/notice. No I don't want access to your server. You should NEVER give access to your server in either a Development or Playable State If you feel like you actually NEED to hand over your server to some stranger in the first place, maybe you shouldn't be hosting? Even if it's to optimize a gamemode/addon. Don't give them access to your server entirely. ESPECIALLY anything that has a config with your valuable information. Zip up a folder and make sure any VALUABLE OR IMPORTANT information is taken off.
I actually discovered some MySQL info because some scrub forgot to wipe his crap. No I didn't log into or anything, I just told them about it and they just didn't care so.. yeh. xP
Anyway, Rant is over. Thanks for (if any) comment(s)! Lmao
ps. Sorry if I ended up just randomly ranting about my triggered rant, instead of trying to focus on my general question. xP
I typically don’t ever voice chat any of the developers I work with. Everything is handled over text. It’s quicker, easier, strait to the point, and keeps documentation of everything.
Most people like someone with a mic, because you can tell how old they are. Also, a text conversation is much more casual, while a voice chat is more serious, thus making the voice chat seem more appropriate.
I disagree. It's all how you handle yourself in text chat, if you're not typing properly then you'll be looked at like a child.
I avoid voice chat if possible, there's no reason at all you should have to listen to me. Text gets the idea across and can be even more straight to the point.

I'm always here to listen to you dad.
I've done my fair share of commision based stuff and not once have I voice chatted with the person. This counts as both the dev and the client. To be honest, it's not something I really wanna do. 90% of the people here are socially awkward nerds, we don't do good in situations like that, especially when under the pressure of professionalism.
