Duplicate scripts?

Last read Never

Today I purchased

https://www.gmodstore.com/scripts/view/3701/discord-relay-now-with-screenshotting

and

https://www.gmodstore.com/scripts/view/3277/discord-chat-relay

Both scripts have Trixter.xyz as an author. Re-releases of scripts have been a standard practice on the site but in this instance I feel that this is grossly exploiting the system as they are almost identical scripts.

Can a mod take into this?

Why would you purchase both of them? The second one was made by Shigbeard and Trixter helped him with the script, he wasn't the author of it.

Almost identical? If you have them both bought, please compare the code and features, and shigbeards relay was written by shigbeard, while mine was written by me. They have same idea, but different ways that they work. Im co-author in shigbeards as i also helped shigbeard with his version and may do sometimes his tickets.

They do work differently and contain different features. Seems like any additional features in one script should have just been made as dlc.

I can explain this one.

I initially made script 3277, the one you linked second, after Trixter (EDIT: Sorry, I meant Commander) encouraged me to make it. However some users harassed me to make hundreds of small changes just for them and expecting me to drop my entire life to work on the script. I fell into a severe depression, bordering suicidal, and asked Trixter to take over development, as he has been working on an object oriented lua implementation of the relay that I couldn't understand at the time.

After setting him as an additional author, and providing almost 100% profits to him, he had taken it upon himself to release his rendition as an entirely new script. Which is fair, because it was 100% his work. I left him as an additional author as he continued to help me with the odd bug report.

As I've said to other people, I don't approve of what Trixter has done. But at the same time there is technically nothing wrong with it. The first script you linked is his work, the second one is mine. A worse case than this occurs in Rocketmania's Car Dealer, where he re-released his car dealer script after hundreds of sales and refused to even give a discount for the exact same features. At the time, this was considered acceptable. So this is also acceptable.

Edited Oh also you shouldn't be posting in this section :) https://www.gmodstore.com/community/threads/jHp1hJV4RW_0D1g9EaxD1Q

Accident :D

With all due respect - it's your responsibility to know what you're buying, and it's your responsibility to make sure you buy what you want, once. It's your money - you need to take responsibility for it. If you're not sure - there is a forum you can use to clear things up before you click "buy now" a second time.

Thanks for being a sport and explaining this. :D

I also have clearly missed reading the rules section in this subforum and probs should be in a more appropriate area.

It was an accident on my part and take full responsibility. I don't have a problem with honoring the transactions as I should have not been more carefull. Both scripts have similar names and similar display images, similar features, and the same contributing author. Anyone could have made that mistake.

He never claimed to demand a refund or anything along those lines. He's taken his mistake on the chin.

A proper explanation has been given, so I see no reason in keeping it open. OP should have also messaged the developer as well to ask about the difference between the two. Just food for thought.
