Finished a simple Android game

Hey there, I recently finished a little RGB Guessing game for Android called An Eye For Colour. You can download it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.empyreangaming.AEFC

hi

I've also thought I'd do a little deal, where each person can get one script of mine for free (your choice, $3 or under) if they download the game, and leave a rating and/or review. If you are interested in this then send me a message with a link/screenshot of the review/rating, along with what script you want and the account that should get access.

All of them!

You don't have to, I don't use scripts anyway. You made a good game, and you put effort, only natural that you get some recognition!

How did you make this? Java or some game engine?

I used GameMaker, there is an Android export module - normally it's pretty expensive but there was a humble bundle a while back. Would recommend it as an easy way to make Android games without learning complicate Java stuff :V

Or you could just use Unity :)

Most people use C# which aren't that hard, but you can also just use UnityScript (JavaScript with lots of custom API)

Anyway great job on the game, it looks really good and I like the concept

Aw thanks a lot! Yeah, I've thought about branching out to more 'complex' engines like Unity but last time, it was overwhelming. I should give it another try sometime tho

Android/iOS games are real bussines nowadays. I remember reading somewhere in 2014, that the creator of the infamous '' Flappy Bird '' Earned 10k a week becasue of the ads in game, Great job by the way!

This brings me back to my attempt at an Android game... It was a disgusting mess as it was made by me (I had once read a "Java for Dummies" book) and two of my peers (no programming experience what-so-ever). I guess it might have been a good idea to use an engine instead of jumping right into the Android API, but we were naive.

Anyways, back to the topic:

It's a very peculiar game, I don't think I've ever seen anything like it. I expected a "find the odd one out" sort of game, but I'm glad this was something new.

A few suggestions:

A visual cue for whether you guessed correctly or not would be nice. You could check the score increase, but a little icon indicating success or failure would be nice for those who aren't playing with sound.

It's not immediately obvious what the white circle is supposed to represent. Perhaps a decreasing progress bar or simply a number with how many failed attempts the player has left would be more intuitive.

I'm a bit lost as to how decrease mode works. The description says that the "possible RGB code of each colour decreases by one every round," but when I play it doesn't seem to do so. For example, this was the color sequence for one of my games:

( 157, 75, 197 ); ( 251, 104, 55 ); ( 35, 133, 59 ); ( 216, 244, 124 ); ( 60, 67, 2 ); ( 204, 167, 155 ); ( 182, 89, 217 ); ( 126, 154, 211 ); ( 121, 80, 76 ); ( 143, 245, 84 ); ( 83, 6, 16 ); ( 66, 96, 148 ); ( 238, 63, 222 ); ( 215, 6, 60 ); ( 123, 231, 237 ); ( 191, 95, 142 ); ( 187, 87, 187 ); ( 114, 205, 180 ); ( 21, 104, 79 ); ( 51, 179, 174 ); ( 189, 96, 5 ); ( 193, 44, 162 ); ( 145, 94, 17 ); ( 5, 52, 102 ); ( 164, 59, 119 ); ( 150, 209, 205 ); ( 110, 61, 57 ); ( 183, 82, 203 ); ( 87, 81, 77 ); ( 13, 46, 143 ); ( 157, 37, 39 ); ( 209, 196, 89 )

I can't find any patterns there.

As far as I can tell there isn't any way to remove colors from one's palette. It might be useful if a player accidentally adds a color or just decides they don't like a certain color anymore.

In my experience spamming the colors is the best strategy in timed mode. Adding a minimum delay could thwart this, though that runs the risk of irritating players who actually guess the time that fast.

Achievements don't seem to be stored, or maybe it's just not checking if I already have an achievement, as I've gotten the "Red Eye" achievement about three times by now.

Overall it's a cool little game, good luck!

"A visual cue for whether you guessed correctly or not would be nice. You could check the score increase, but a little icon indicating success or failure would be nice for those who aren't playing with sound." - You're right, it's a lot less noticeable with sound so I'll look into a visual cue.

"It's not immediately obvious what the white circle is supposed to represent. Perhaps a decreasing progress bar or simply a number with how many failed attempts the player has left would be more intuitive." - A few people have told me this but I was never sure what change to make. I think middle of the screen is a good position for displaying life information but unsure how.

"I'm a bit lost as to how decrease mode works. The description says that the "possible RGB code of each colour decreases by one every round," but when I play it doesn't seem to do so. For example, this was the color sequence for one of my games:" - The way it's intended to work is the pool of possible outcomes becomes smaller, for example, the max you can get on the first round is 255,255,255, then on the second, 244,244,244. If it didn't seem to be working like that, I may have messed something up and will take a look at the code.

"As far as I can tell there isn't any way to remove colors from one's palette. It might be useful if a player accidentally adds a color or just decides they don't like a certain color anymore." At the moment, there isn't and I hadn't actually thought of this. It's a good idea, though, will definitely add a little button to remove them.

"In my experience spamming the colors is the best strategy in timed mode. Adding a minimum delay could thwart this, though that runs the risk of irritating players who actually guess the time that fast." - This thought was in the back of my head while making it, which is why I decided to display number of incorrect guesses at the end as well. Something more might needed to be added though

"Achievements don't seem to be stored, or maybe it's just not checking if I already have an achievement, as I've gotten the "Red Eye" achievement about three times by now." - It works fine on PC but saving data to Android devices has been a bit of a pain all the way through. I thought I'd got it working but I'll take another look

Thank you so much for the in depth feedback!! I will definitely take it into consideration and base future updates around your thoughts

When I click on your name and try to view your addons, none seem to show? Is this just me?
