[Suggestion]- Curators - Make Creators Tag Their Shit APPROPRIATELY

Last read Never
#1

The tags are useless when they're not actually looked at when deciding if an addon should be publicly listed because I've just decided to search for things in the 'Administration' category and have been greeted with printers, drug addons and an array of shite which has nothing to do with administration

Haha yeah man I don't use ULX i use gPrinter for all my administration needs !!!!!

This has nothing to do with curators. Even so, if you really care, just report said scripts. There's also not that many categories to choose from and creators want to use their limit of 3 categories to maximize exposure.

Okay so you're quite literally saying yes misusing it is fine bc you want to maximise how much you appear despite the fact it may be in an irrelevant category

silly boi

ah yes, creators need "exposure" in irrelevant categories, fuck those customers who are actually looking for specific products

whole point of gmodstore is that is is a place for creators to sell their addons, in effect to gain exposure for their addons & themselves

why should categories be misused to give creators exposure when gmodstore does exactly that with or without categories?

anyway i doubt anyone even really checks categories, i'd just remove them, good titling/seo is probably more important for creators addons than anything else

#6

bold talk for someone categorizing a whitelist addon as "adminstration" and "donation" along with a logging addon as "administration"

Dumb x 11

bWhitelist

Administration - Used to regulate access to jobs

Donation - Used to restrict access to custom jobs

bLogs

Administration - Arguably one of the most important tools a moderator can use

I don't really see your point...

with logic like that gprinters can easily fall under administration as you can regulate which groups have access to which printers

so tell me again what's the issue since apparently people agree with that reasoning (@lol included surprisingly)?? if the simple notion of implementing a system with the ability to restrict users exists in an addon, then therefore the addon can be categorized as "administration" without issues?

if we were to go based off of what @lol said (which we're clearly not), any addon categorizing itself as administration should be an admin system, therefore any addon categorized as donation should be a donation system and so forth with the other categories.

the real issue is the categories available to choose from:

  1. 3 for gamemodes (darkrp, prophunt, ttt)
  2. 2 for web (web, loading screen)
  3. 2 for ui (vgui, hud)
  4. 4 for the actual usage of an addon (administration, donation, vgui, web)

why have vgui as a category? addons at this point should always have a form of ui (exception being certain sweps), it's not something that should be categorized when nearly all addons are supposed to have it. there's not even a tool category which would add more refinement for users browsing. why isn't there a printer category? a drug category? there's a decent number of addons out there where it should have its own categories for users just like huds. saying you can't find a certain addon because you think it's in the incorrect category is pointless when the category it's supposed to be in is just as saturated.

What a spectacular display of nil common sense and ignorance to the viewpoint of a customer.

I would elaborate, but what is the point when you seem to have undergone a lobotomy? You are twisting people's logic towards your own narrative, which they are literally arguing against.

The only sensical thing I can pick out from your post is that we need more categories.

I mean you're quite literally taking me saying 'I use gprinters as an admin system' for real which shows you have minimal understanding of the English language past literal use of the words and didn't take into consideration that it was a joke

Next one being that your dead loading screen can in no way be described as "administration", whereas it could EASILY be described as "web", but instead of addressing the fact that you're guilty of misusing the tags and saying "yeah I did", you're being ignorant to my sound point and deciding to look into technicalities.

Printer addon with functionality to restrict users is not the same as an administration tool used SPECIFICALLY as an administration tool, which when looked at would be received as an ADMINISTRATION tool. If you can't see that there is a clear difference and you're genuinely failing to see that there's any difference then you need to see a behavioral therapist and see if you can be diagnosed with anything.

As for the "Real Issue", the "Real" issue is that the entire system has been rendered useless by the blind misuse of it from people like yourself.

That's all.

The best to go off of when trying to determine what is believed to fall under that category in the context of this thread is the original post and the responding posts with their reasoning.

Next one being that your dead loading screen can in no way be described as "administration", whereas it could EASILY be described as "web", but instead of addressing the fact that you're guilty of misusing the tags and saying "yeah I did", you're being ignorant to my sound point and deciding to look into technicalities.ย

Why don't you believe it falls under administration? It has an admin panel where you can manage it's settings. Does administration apply specifically to a gmod server itself? If so, why don't you have the capacity to explain that as opposed to ranting about mislabeled addons in a joke rage fashion? The whole point of looking at the technicalities is to get a better understanding of this whole situation. Something you have failed multiple times to properly explain despite your belief of English superiority.

You compare a printer addon to ulx saying you'll use it for your admin needs. Therefore, it is assumed you believe administration applies to admin systems in gmod. By that logic, I would have miscategorized my addon. You just posted this thread to be posting without actually wanting any real change in the system. You never really cared for anything, you just felt like ranting about it.

Printer addon with functionality to restrict users is not the same as an administration tool used SPECIFICALLY as an administration tool, which when looked at would be received as an ADMINISTRATION tool.

I'm glad your knowledge of the English language is so well shown that you use the term administration with an attempt at different connotations as if that is the proper way to explain why one addon is considered administration while another is not. ๐Ÿ‘

I must've missed something with the herd mentality clearly shown here where you all agree that addons are miscategorized, but fail to even come up with a simple concept definition for a single category. It's amazing.

This thread was clearly never serious to begin and you've shown that mutiple times.

If you don't want to elaborate then how will anything ever progress. How am I being ignorant to a customer's viewpoint? How am I twisting someone's words if I am simply applying their logic and reasoning to just a different addon.

You still don't understand.

A customer looking in the "Administration" category does not want to see loading screens, it is not relevant to their search.

Loading screens provide no administrative benefit to a server.

Also, for a definition, here you go

Agree x 1
#16

Then what do they want/expect to see? I don't get how many times I have to reiterate something you all seem to ignore/fail to answer. A google definition does not mean anything for gmod, I'd expect you to actually be smart enough to know that.

I made this thread after looking for different admin systems and seeing a load of mistagged stuff, this was made as a serious thread and suggestion, you seem to continue to disagree even after the fact that me and billy have both made you look like someone who has to catch a short bus.

The tags on an addon should be it's primary purpose of the script rather than the side features which if tagged with that would make the script be misleading in nature. It's like if vcmod advertised itself as a "weapons" addon just because it has a spike strip, rather than the fact it's not its primary purpose. Just like the fact that if someone searched for ''Administration" they'd be looking for something to assist their administration, not some bootstrap theme loading screen just because it has an admin panel. The fact that you couldn't see what we was getting at when we was giving specific examples, shows that you're either not capable of synthesizing thoughts properly or you're intentionally refusing the fact that you yourself have misused categories knowingly but don't want to own up to it.

Just to say it again in case you didn't get it my suggestion is to scrutinize scripts better in the future (if not the present/past posted scripts too!) so that customer time isn't wasted and they're not being mislead.

Tags should be for the main purpose of the script change my mind

with any point besides 'InCreAsIng ExPoSuRe'

Perhaps it's time for a change in the category system again. Previously you were able to assign an infinite number of tags, but this was abused and we wiped all tags and had everyone assign a maximum of 3.

Since there is still abuse we might have to standardize the categories so that they coincide less with eachother or not at all, and perhaps also add more. Maybe also make a system where certain categories do not work together, i.e. darkrp, ttt, prophunt etc. Should the limit be 2 instead of 3? Makes it harder to miscategorise but still allows combos like web, donation.

I don't think there is much else that could be done except routine checks. I don't want to disallow creators from categorizing their own addons or have moderators pick categories on addon submissions.

Friendly x 1
#19

I don't see anything wrong with owners providing suggested and preferred tags upon submission and staff confirming if it would fit the add-on.

#20

You might not but it's another element the curators need to deal with and as far as I'm aware I think some creators would not like it either if they for some reason ever feel like their addon is miscategorised
