Principles of Product Curation
Principles of Product Curation
Overall product curation is driven by a single key factor, what would be bad for GmodStore, its product authors and its customers. In terms of guidelines, this breaks down to a number of more specific points:
- General
- Products must adhere to site rules, terms of service agreements and the law.
- Products must allow facilitation of the curation process.
- Presentation
- Store Pages must provide clarity for Customers.
- Store Pages must retain site presentability.
- Development Guidelines
- Products must be safe for customers and their services.
- Products must allow for interoperability.
- "It won't be just your product on a server, plan for that accordingly."
- This also includes a level of optimisation.
- Products must meet a baseline standard for maintainability.
- "Garry's Mod still receives updates, APIs may change and it may not always be you attempting to fix the product should it break."
- As an example, the FindMetaTable changes broke a lot, so either you or your customers will be needing to make those fixes.
- Products must meet a minimum level of operation.
- This applies both to functionality (your product must work), and to feature-set (your product must provide value for customers).
Furthermore, during curation, we are likely to provide advice in line with current best practices, though we aim to make it clear what is a breach of specific guidelines, and what is just best practice.
