Well, none of the developers could really see this coming. As for the developers themselves -- not all of them are just going to disable the scripts because of the issue, most of them are either already working on it, or some people are away from SF either doing school, vacation, etc, and don't even know about the issue. So asking some 100+ devs to disable scripts, probably not going to happen when that would probably take more time than to just remove the SE hook itself and re-add the server-side code. (unless the dev didn't back up the server-side code, which should ALWAYS be done, just so cases like this can be avoided).
Also, disabling the script is only going to tell a few users that it's currently not for sale, it's not going to help the possibly hundreds of people who already have it. That would sort of be like using a rocket launcher to kill a fly.
3rd Point, most devs who utilized ScriptEnforcer have said that in their product description. Just read through, and if you find one that says it uses scriptenforcer, then private message them and ask if it's removed or fixed yet. Or PM any developer you want to buy the script of, and just ask. They'll probably tell you.
