Is there anyway that gmodstore could possibly check upon signup if the user has bought Garry's Mod?Evidently if they don't own it would prompt them to buy it?This could possibly solve individuals just signing up straight afterwards and furthermore 'look for jobs'.

Yeah I agree, and maybe check their time aswell

Pretty sure Marcuz is working on/has finished that.

As Lunaversity said before it is more than likely going to be in the actual release.

gmodstore (actual release) will have a dedicated hire me section for freelancers basically just like this.

Caught another alt of the banned user, updated the list at the top. If you've done business with this new one, I'd suggest you contact paypal. He was found today. And according to the history, he went straight to the jobs section and has been dealing with 3+ jobs right away.

neithqueGmodstore v3 will have better functionality for handling this stuff, as for forged communication transcripts, we're pretty good at catching it and have done so in the past. Not the mention, we don't just look at a screenshot of conversation and say "ok, approved", I personally literally will go to the other party and discuss it with them as well. It's not a 5 minute process and there's numerous ways to catch a person in a lie.

Wouldn't it be a good idea to have a messenger system for GmodStore which both employer and employee can communicate through for jobs? Freelancer does this and it's saved me no end of times.

AFAIK currently gmodstore doesn't hold money? I placed two jobs (all done scamless, thankfully) and couldn't find how to send payment through the system, so had to work directly. I already mentioned guarantee system in another thread: the holder place a job and immediatly the system holds money, when the job is done, the holder clicks 'it's done' and the money are to be send to the coder, that could cost 10%. Or, if automatic system is out of question, the most respected persons here (I'd trust Richard more than some unnamed coder) could hold the money as third-party and, if conflict arise, judge upon proofs (screenshots, the code could be given to them, etc) and make unbiased decision - usually it's 10-15% but no less than $5, so from jobs of $100-150 it would be $15 min.

Misses a step with holding Hirer's money. Otherwise the coder could still be scammed on their time.

It holds the clients money, and the freelancers work until both requirements are completely met then the MIDDLEMAN (gmodstore) sends the money to the freelancer and the content to the client.

Marcuz might be a weeb but he's not brain dead retarded

Me and Atlas are working on a website to help prevent users from being scammed.https://gmodrep.com/It has a similar concept to steamrep but it's appealing and appeals/reports aren't going to be handled on a forum. We're about 60% done, asking for suggestions ( if you have any, join the discord https://discord.gg/XqT8svF ) and bug reports. So far we haven't beenable to exploit (xss & sql inject) our own site yet, we welcome others to try for now.The pages that are currently done are:https://gmodrep.com/https://gmodrep.com/u/databaseshttps://gmodrep.com/u/76561198074425791 (profiles)https://gmodrep.com/aboutPages until completion:Appeals, Reports & Admin CPOnce it's completed we'll create a whole new thread n' everything but for now if anyone is interested in helping contribute to it, you're more than welcome to, we want to really decrease the amount of scamming cunts on this site, and there hasn't really been any repository or anything that holds a complete list of them, which we see gmodrep doing.this is my idea (https://allonblog.fr)

We spoke to you about this in discord, you provided nothing but false claims so we're not going to do anything, we had no idea about your site nor took any inspiration from it because we had no idea it existed, the main focus of inspiration was from steamrep.

I can't even tell clearly what your website is so I'm not sure if they're even connected in anyway apart from this:

Yer, we ditched our old host (cause shared hosting is ass and it was just temp) to a vps so we're currently waiting on cuntflare to authorize us. (we would use let's encrypt but eh).

anyways for now just use http instead of https it should be authorized sometime today, if cloudflare decides to stop being a cunt.

updated the post to just remove the https along with added our new routes (links) such as /u/databases being turned into /databases then the login was changed from /auth/{shit} to /login and /logout

we completely switched to a new framework which has made production so much easier, so the admin panel will be done pretty soon, then the report and appeal are next.

Found out why cloudflare is taking so long to auth the cert: https://www.cloudflarestatus.com/

Other things you could do (for finding devs):

  1. Ask for proof of background. I know that new developers going for hire won't have this, but if you're wanting someone to do a pretty complex or big script, you want someone with experience anyways and it provides extra insurance for you because they wouldn't want to ruin that reputation.
  2. Never pay upfront, aka never give any sort of money to a "developer" if they're asking for payment upfront, chances are they're most likely trying to scam you and leave. The only time upfront payment would be acceptable is if the job is pretty huge that the developer would like some sort of payment first (this should also be a minimum payment or a fraction of the total payment). Other than that, payments should almost always be done like this: First, check out the script on the developer's server, then pay half to the developer, obtain the script, then after the developer got it to work for you, pay them the other half, and boom successful good business.

Definitely a must, even new developers should have this either it being free work they released on the workshop or any other place, we all start somewhere but you shouldn't start in a market place freelancing, you need the basics and then most advanced areas of whatever you're doing so doing projects then releasing them is the best way to build up a work foundation for yourself.

I'd say it really depends on the developer's reputation, cause most people always charge 50% up front so they're making sure the client isn't going to waste their time. But of course never pay up front if you believe the person can't do the job (e.g. if they have no background in whatever they do, have no work, no reputation, just signed up, etc...)

Oh, I never even get asked to pay upfront for most of my jobs lol, and when I do I usually deny them, but that's kind of what I'm talking about anyways. The only should only time it's fine to give a payment up front is if A, the job you're wanting would take several days to weeks even (AKA A lot of work and time). B, they pass all of the checks that Richard listed out, and the proof of background check, and/or C there's somewhat a logical reason why the developer needs half payment. If it denies A, aka the job, should actually only take at most a few days, then it doesn't matter if they have experience or not, you'll at least want to get some sort of reason why they want payment upfront if that is truly the case.

I'll give a very good example of how paying upfront is a bad idea anyway. One quick thing to note is that my story was when I was just starting out and didn't receive a whole lot of light on how to handle any sort of business for this, but this has been the only mistake I have made by far in basically 2 years of hiring people for jobs on here because of learning from that mistake.

My payment upfront story started when I posted a job (of course), and a kid added me on Steam. We talked about the script process and everything, and he was talking about he would be able to finish it basically in pretty much a day, but couldn't do it until a few days later. He then asked for half of the payment upfront claiming that he had to pay his "electricity bill", and honestly thinking about it now, you could resemble his pity story to a drug addict/alcoholic hobos story who's asking for money to help that addiction. But anyways, me not looking into any of his experience, if he had any, or anything to see that he was legit eve, and me accepting his pity story, I paid him half of the payment up front. Right after that, he went completely silent, I kept trying to talk to him about 30 minutes later about some stuff and basically he wasn't responding what so ever. Since I was getting worried, I finally suspected that he was a scammer. Once I told him that I was starting to suspect him as a scammer, he immediately removed me like how most scammers do, when they get what they want. Luckily, however, another actual developer added me and talked to me, and the next day he had even gotten the scammer to send back the money. I learned from that night to be extremely cautious with anything you're doing in terms of money on the internet. You should be cautious with your money in general, but the internet, and especially Garry's Mod is filled with toxic/scummy people who don't care what happens to you, as long as they get the money.
