How hard is Python to learn?

Last read Never
#1

So basically as part of my University module, I have to learn Python. Just wanted to know if its similar to LUA or completely the opposite. So far I know the basics of how LUA works with its functions and parameters etc...

#2

should have gotten a language to learn you where more than likely going to use other than Python, my girlfriend is in college and says they barely teach her anything about Python so it's p useless school wise.

Ehh thing is I need to know Python. Mainly because the 3D program I'm learning heavily requires you to at least know how python works for scripting plugins, using the inbuit MEL editor and a lot of other programs I'm learning.

#4

What 3D Program is that?

#5

Python is easy to learn. It's just a different syntax, for example you define functions as

def testFunction():
print "This is how you print in Python."

Tabbing is very important for Python, things need to be tabbed properly or else it will not work.

My main program is Maya 2016 but I'm soon to learn Mudbox and Nuke. Thing is with Python, is a very versatile language meaning most 3D applications support it.

That syntax is pure cancer, just like jqueries.

Regrettably it's the way that it has to be done. I don't use Python for much, but it's still always something neat to understand.

When you know 3-4 programming and scripting languages, learning a new one is only a matter of getting used to syntax.

It's one of these cool brain functions, the other one is r34d1ng 1337 t3xt.

I think you mean spacing haha funny guy

But seriously tho, python's a pretty cool language and it's easy to pick up if you already know other scripting languages. Forced indentation isn't a bad thing imo, I think it makes code much more readable.

As for Luna saying it's not useful... Luna's wrong.

Anyways, have fun.

Tabbing is basically just that, spaces. It's just intentional spacing, whereas pressing the space bar can be accidental at times creating errors. It's also reliable and better than pressing space bar 5 times for each line.

(it was a joke)

If we are going to interpret it as an actual point and not just tongue-in-cheek about tabs vs. spaces: I prefer using indentation when talking about code as it's indifferent to whether you're using tabs or spaces. I'm also not sure if "tabbing" is actually a word.

edit:

I guess spacing can also be applied to indenting with tabs, but it's a bit of a stretch between it's programming and non-programming definitions.

edit 2:

According to Dictionary.com, tabbing is indeed a word that can be used to mean "to operate the tab function on a typewriter or computer."

I have myself just finished a Python course at UNI a week ago. The course was named "Introduction to programming and data processing". It was easy for me, because I'm known to programming and different languages. In the course there were some people that never had done any programming and they didn't have too much trouble. You should not worry about it.

I still don't see a situation in which I would need Python.
