Goodbye PayPal, welcome Stripe!

#41

If you're unable to pay via card.

Sofort and Giropay are being added in the next few weeks for Germany

#42

Marcuz I dont know if this is the place for it but i got a question. There are lots of ppl buying addons from gms in Turkey. I see that you guys are planning to add some more payment methods for several countries. I suggest yall to add Turkish one too!

#43

No it doesn't, you guys could have just left PayPal and stripe at the same time, I too feel like I just wasted almost 260 USD, I just discovered this as I was going to make a purchase, by doing this you are leaving out almost all of Latin America.

I'm not quite sure what you're referring to, as I am able to see Argentina in the country dropdown:

Are you referring to something else?

As for the fully switching over to Stripe instead of leaving PayPal as a second option, originally when the wallet (our payment manager) was designed (about 2 years ago) it was made with the idea to support multiple gateways. We wanted to support both Stripe and PayPal, however now that PayPal has introduced the new fees that were mentioned in the OP using PayPal is something we would rather not do from a financial perspective.

If you're still unable to pay from Argentina please open a site ticket or DM me on discord, and I'll try to get the issue solved!

You guys surely didn't read the OP.

We had to switch because we were losing 20% of our profits in a new fee introduced by PayPal. A fee that takes 3% of all the money when transferring from our PayPal account to our US bank account. We could not convert the currency and transfer to a bank account not located in the US either, as the currency conversion fee is 3.5%.

We pay out our creators ourselves so that we can support having a shopping cart with split payments, as well as being able to take a platform fee of 20% and any payable tax like VAT. This means we would have way more money than only our own in our PayPal account at any given time, and it's all of this money we have to withdraw to the US bank account.

Imagine creators make $60,000 USD collectively, every month. Imagine about $10,000 USD there of is VAT. That means the money we get 20% of is the remaining $50,000. That's $10,000. Now PayPal wants 3% of $60,000 in order for us to withdraw the money, that's $1,800(!!!) that we have to pay out of our own profits. That's a loss of nearly 20% of our revenue, just because of a payment gateway's decision to add an absolutely ridiculous fee.

Why should we stand for that? Why should we continue to let PayPal literally eat our profits? They're an absolutely ridiculously crap and shady business. They hold transactions WITHOUT TELLING THE CUSTOMER. They blame us for not accepting gift cards when it's literally THEIR OWN FAULT, they're geo-blocked! They communicate that we should be able to get a Key Account Manager, then suddenly they change the requirements to something 'fully automatic' and NO-ONE can answer me what the new requirements are, after having asked several times! Several times within several years!

Their support is slow, their APIs are slow, old, and hardly work. Their webhooks are highly unreliable, their fraud tools are non-existent, automatic bank withdrawals don't exist unless you have an unobtainable Key Account Manager. The marketplace solution was supposed to be released years ago and never was. Payouts was supposed to be released to the public but never was.

For creators, Stripe makes absolutely perfect sense, and for customers it will also make more sense once we get EUR support so we can support more European payment methods. A lot of countries are blocked from using PayPal, barely any countries are blocked with Stripe. Sure, not all countries have cards and sure, some countries have additional fees, but chances are you are already circumventing some laws by even using PayPal in some of those cases.

I know customers accept payments primarily through PayPal. I've been there to enable that behaviour, Prometheus has helped a lot of communities earn money through PayPal so I know a thing or two about how server owners make money. Unfortunately it doesn't change the problem at hand, and we can't do anything about that. I asked PayPal if it was possible to lower or remove the fee, and the response was "No, the fee is the same for everybody.".

By the way, there are several documented cases of PayPal locking accounts after someone has turned 18, simply because they were a minor when creating the account. They even lock accounts that were made in a parent's name once you try to change the name and verify it later on.

Sorry guys,

PayPal had to go.

The same people who complain about inability to use PayPal, also call their server profits "donations" (when they legally aren't that) and don't pay income tax on the revenue generated. They don't realize the complications of running a business like gmodstore and I doubt there's anything that the gmodstore team can say to make them understand.

If you can't use anything else than PayPal to purchase addons, and you can't own a VISA/Mastercard-enabled card to use with Stripe, chances are you are too young to be buying addons and you're not gmodstore's target demographic anyways. I understand that some countries aren't able to get such cards, but majority of the developed world does support modern-banking. Same goes for PaySafeCard, I've seen a lot of minors asking for that not only on gmodstore but around various communities, and once again, if you're a minor you prooooobably shouldn't be spending money on gmodstore addons, anyways.

Also, like Marcuz said, PayPal does lock under-18-at-the-time-of-creation accounts. It happened to me. This can put a freeze on your account funds.

#54

Aaaaand, now you can :D

Keep in mind that Sofort payments may have a transfer delay depending on how you pay :)

#55

Quite funny, considering it literally translates to "immediately"

#56

That's funny, Stripe says this in the docs:

Paypal only works to pay for stuff, but as the seller its not. Been having so much trouble with paypal, all the dispute ect.. Lost around 890 dollars this year in dispute. had to do a experiment with Paypal. Dispute a well known company for charging for a LEGIT 32dollars month subcribtions I had.

-

Hey Paypal, I sent a request for refund to email: support@* *** .com a month ago with no replie. Then I just had to request a chargeback, even I didn't want to go so far and low.. Perhaps thats the only way to get my help..

Never got any reply from company in question.

Paypal granted me the full refund...

WTF Paypal, I hate this dispute shit. Point of this, glad gms going for new payment methood! All the trouble with Paypal aren't worth this. This is why I revoked paypal as payment and replaced it with stripe, btc, eth and vipps (norwegian thing)

Sexy, I've bought addons via Sofort.

For everyone getting an error code, it may be something with your cookies/browser.

I've changed from Chrome to Opera. Sofort worked like a charm.
