Deciding on a VPS for Webhosting

#21

Thanks for the help guys.

Last question - for a database/web server combo used only for webdev and testing, should the $3.50/month plan from OVH (2GB RAM, 10GB SSD, 1x 2.4GHz) be enough? Or would RAM usage warrant the next plan of $7.00/ for 4GB RAM, 20GB SSD, 1x 2.4GHz?

eh, I'd get another server (not from ovh) for a database then keep the other one for your website, so if you get vultrs' $5 plan it'll only be $10

I'm pretty sure vultrs' block storages let you use databases, not sure you'll have to contact them about that. But if they do, you can get a 10gb one for $1 which is good enough unless you're making a huge commercial site or something very intensive.

Do you realise you can upgrade if you need more resources? Just go with a ~$5 package, and upgrade if shit melts for non-mission-critical apps. If it's mission-critical at all, VPS is a nono
