General question about Gmod performance

Last read Never
#1

Is it the fact that the source engine is really old which doesn't allow gmod for outstanding preformance or is it other factors? Like, if i ran a gmod server from a souped up dedi that's WAAAAY overkill for what gmod needs, it would still end up dropping frames for the user when they're in the center of the map with 50 other users in the game.

I will now be counting down how long it takes neth to dumb rate this.

The issue is always that a lot of GMod mappers don't know how to optimize their maps. Also, having a beefy server won't fix players with shitty computers.

Remember to put another newline after your quote :) Anyway, there are lots of videos on YouTube explaining this. But here's one that explained it well to me. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ne59X-e-R9Y

I own a darkrp server with 80 players --> we have a custom maps with good optimization for an open map (rockford type) Other servers like SUP use small map (Sky, road, building), which influences the performance of the player (thanks areportals)

Here simple optimization ^^ enter image description here enter image description here

But large map problem: enter image description here (The entire map is loaded..)

So it's basically the case of parts of the map being rendered for the client? I thought it was just because gmod is old as fuck.

Just because something is old, that doesn't mean it's bad. It just means that more work (like optimizing maps/models) is placed on the mapper and modeller. Those who do not understand how to do so properly make the game work worse as a whole. Oh, and GMod also has this shitty thing called awesomium... that's the part of GMod that does the web-browser related stuff. But a lot of people are convincing the devs to replace it with something else.

AMAZING! Nah, it's most-likely going to be replaced with whatever the steam browser uses. (I'm pretty sure it's based on chromium)
