First Scoreboard I've Created!

Hey Guys!

So I recently got into GLua development and created my first scoreboard. This display icons for all ranks in the server and can be customized in a table. This also displays Steam Name, Rp Name, Job, Hours, Kills, Deaths and Ping. I wanted my scoreboard to be minimallstic and have a modern look. This groups the jobs together (President/Mayor on Top then All Police) and displays the team color. I have created a timer to update a local and online database table to store how many hours you have been in the server. It also has a right click function that shows all the data and will be able to go to the steam profile and copy Steamid (For ban requests)

With this, I got suggestions that I should put it in the GMod Store so I tried and this got denied for being too simple. This post is not to be disrespectfull at all but just want the views of developers/others on what should I add. I am going to add Admin things to the right click but not sure if this is enough. I thought posting this in the current state would be enought.

This is my first GLUA Project

I really like your scoreboard, If it would be on the market, then I'd instantly buy it! It would be really nice to have that! :)

Kind Regards,

Nephew

The complexity of the design is just simply not up to standards of other scoreboards, even if yours looks nice

Especially if its a first project, I'd recommend you upload it to the steam workshop

No disrespect to these creators, but..... And these ones are?

It's not that those scoreboards are bad, but they all share something in common like Declan's Scoreboard.... They're minimalistic and sleek

In defense of the first one you linked it was last updated back in 2016 when the standard was different. As for the second one, I can't give much input.

Overall this is a nice scoreboard, especially for your first one. Good job!

I don't always agree with denying addons for being too simple. There's no cost to have them accepted and they are bound to make some money. It's clear there is some interest in buying your addon. However if you want to ram some additional features into your scoreboard to get it up to "standard", then I would maybe include the following:

  1. Usergroups
  2. Usergroup Titles / Colors
  3. SteamID Titles / Colors
  4. Support for community Avatar
  5. Bar icons for ping (green, yellow, red)
  6. Support for quick commands ( ulx, xadmin, d3a, whatever else )
  7. Smooth Scrolling

Yeah good ideas. Already have scrolling. The quick commands are in development now but idk if this alone will bring it up to standard but will definetly take the some ideas from here. Thanks you!

First one was released four years ago, as Rainn said standards change heavily

Second one is a bit more complex and better looking (IMO) than this one

For a first script it's much better than whatever I created for my first. However, trying to sell your first few scripts is usually a bad idea. Like people have said, try the workshop or garrysmod.org if people still use that.

I do like the design though!

Fair enough, however that's my point... It's your opinion across from others. Everyone shares different thoughts which is obviously okay. Some think it's too simple, some think it's perfect, and modern.

Standards should be left for the users of gmodstore to decide that option. If the addon is acutally decent, works, and doesn't have exploits than what's really the problem? Wouldn't be the first time an addon has came on here and only got 5 buys and that's it. Seems biases to me but if that's how things are, who am I to argue.

Have to remember in today's gmod community time, the gmodstore doesn't only cater to darkrp/ttt/etc. servers. People go for more serious stuff, or even completly custom. If the store had a mix of darkrp/ttt/etc. and more semi serious/custom gamemode type addons but still using darkrp base, it'll be nothing but beneficial.

gmodstore is first and fore-mostly a business.

Having high, consistent standards is important for gmodstore to keep a premium brand image and attract customers, as well as this, higher standards reduces the amount of simpler scripts that are on the site, this is good for all parties as it means high quality addons aren't drowning in a sea of lower effort content which might lead to less sales for developers that put a lot of work into their scripts. It also works the other way, being that customers don't have to scan through a ton of addons to find a good one. A little less obvious but the higher standards also make it easier for curators as it discourages many developers even bothering with low effort scripts on the market place (not saying that this scoreboard is low effort, just in general).

Yes, it's very difficult to maintain consistent standards as, like you say, Rossi, opinion can play an important factor, however there's a high chance that multiple curators would have given the go-ahead to deny the addon for not being complex enough.

Standards being left to the users of gmodstore would lead to a market place full of awful, low effort scripts made by kids tryna make a quick buck.

For an applejack inspired scoreboard, it definitely looks well designed for a first scoreboard

This scoreboard looks good for your first one :)

your first addon should be on the workshop not just because "its too simple" but also because you should get some experience with publishing an addon in some way (and you should get known in best case)

and selling a "hello world"-like program would not be so good for your reputation (except its a very good Hello world) ^^
