Free addon idea, make $$$
ULX is shit. Nobody has properly replaced it. Make an admin mod with a ULX wrapper and cami support, people can switch easily.
Feature list if you wanna make the biggest brain admin mod to replace all others. Feel free to leave some out, main takeaway is wrapper:
- ULX wrapper to support old addons. Masquerade as ULX (well ulib but you get the point) Create identical function calls so old addons can just use you instead and not know the difference. Bans, Kicks, IsUserGroup etc. (If you follow below about discord style, you might wanna map IsUserGroup to HasPermission, and just put it in docs "If an addon that supports ULX instead asks you for the name of the admin rank, give name of permission instead") (If not, IsUserGroup needs to check all secondary user groups too)
-CAMI support
- Import ULX ranks, bans, users. If you have too much time on your hands, serverguard, fadmin etc too.
- (Just a suggestion, big job here) Discord-like permission system with multiple ranks per user, taking inheritance from highest rank, and granting permission on any level gives it on the whole (i.e. ban creation). Allow addon creators to add custom permissions beyond the default ones for kick, ban etc. Display these in a GUI along with the others. (i.e. what ULX does). Have a function that returns an array of all permissions, and one that just checks for a single string. If this is too big brain, just multiple ranks per user at least for VIPs.
- Extensive docs for expansion with custom commands (maybe even a custom command maker with a GUI for the young-uns). Ofc, needs an importable CheckPermissions hook.
- MySQL support
- Time tracking
- If you like PHP, online ban system
- Possibly plugin system for future use
- Logs. Or support a logger like bLogs.
- Fancy AF menu. Maybe discord styled? Idek
- Possibly reporting system from players -> staff
- Possibly rank sync to MyBB, Xenforo, VanillaForums and IPB
- Warns
- A permission to set a rank as source engine user, admin or superadmin for real old addon support (i.e. ones that use IsAdmin)
- Admin physgun freezing
- Prop Protection
-Steal ideas from other addon creators like everyone else does. Assimilate, assimilate!
If XNator or Srlion are reading, expand your shit and be the wailord of admin mods.
The problem with making any more admin mods at this point is that people plain just won't care enough to switch because they've already hopped from ULX to Serverguard to xAdmin to SAM. It's just one big pain to keep doing the same thing when another underdeveloped admin mod with the goal to "kill all others" releases every month.
That's why someone needs to make a wrapper and import system to skip that shit and mean addons don't need to add extra support for it.
If you both pretend to be ULX, have support for CAMI, and have the option to set ranks as source admin, everyone is happy.
Add an xAdmin/ServerGuard/SAM wrapper too and you win.
The problem is people keep making new admin mods and expecting everyone to adapt their code to them. Old scripts that were made for ulx/fadmin/before ulx existed aren't gonna be recoded to support x y and zadmin when they come out.
I think you’re really overselling the whole “compatibility” thing. For the most part all these admin systems support :GetUserGroup which makes most of them work with a large range of addons. It’s only the really specific addons that involve things like banning users that start to show issues, or something like aWarn (Which takes 30 seconds to add compatibility to yourself).
There is already a large group of private and public admin systems, that meet a large range of needs. For once I agree with Threebow in that we don’t need more...
