Graphic Stuff looks good, coding wise however your Portfolio really doesnt show anything that proofs you have any skills above basic knowledge, in combination with how I have experienced your coding work and what former Clients told me about it, I still think your coding skills should be improved and you should learn more before taking on coding jobs you end up doing only half or in a bad quality overall ( or atleast dont charge for you not being able to do it ).

Can I ask what former clients you're talking about? you've made those statements without any proof. Everyone I've worked with has been pleased that can be shown via my reputation tab and my reviews on here.

So what you are essentially doing here is looping through ents.GetAll for every npc in your table ( in this case 11 times!). Considering that ents.GetAll on its own is very heavy and should basicly never be used in a Think unless necessary just think about what it means if you do it 11 times each think. A very loaded Server can have hundreads of entities you are going through one by one and running a function on each one.

Considering you say you love to optimize your code, what you should have done is making a local table saving all spawned npcs with your class and then looping through that instead of calling ents.GetAll 11 times each Think. Now you are ofc going to argue that there is a cooldown but first of all you still have the same problem, just not as often, and second your cooldown is not functioning correctly either:

Because you are only using one cooldown for every NPCS, but your "Feature" to give every NPC different Play Rates would requiere each NPC to have its own cooldown, also here you are resetting the cooldown 11 times, because you do it in the loop and not after the loop is finished.

Otherwise you could/should have also used table keys instead of values for validation.

So instead of

for k,v in pairs(ents.GetAll()) do if v:GetClass() == "thingIwant" then print(v) break end

local table = { ["thingIwant"] = true }

for k,v in pairs(ents.GetAll()) do if table[v:GetClass()] then print(v) break end

That saves you a lot of loops and is better overall, there is also a special site on the gmod wiki just dedicated to this method.

Otherwise regarding customers happiness let me just say this:

I hope this is enough evidence for you

"Because you are only using one cooldown for every NPCS, but your "Feature" to give every NPC different Play Rates would require each NPC to have its own cooldown" Every NPC has its own cooldown which is NPC.Frequency therefore that point is irrelevant. I have mentioned in this thread that I didn't start learning lua until a couple months ago and this was one of my very first projects with that being said there's of course going to be optimization issues. I'm not going to continue this argument any longer as it has just turned my thread into a shit post if you want to speak to me privately you have my discord. Thank you for the advice though!

Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, I can feel my leg... and my arm... even my fingers. The body I've lost... the comrades I've lost... won't stop hurting... It's like they're all still there. You feel it, too, don't you? I'm gonna make them give back our past.

The code in question was from 3 months ago when I started lua development.

You were doing paid jobs when you only started? That doesn't seem like a very good idea. Did the guy paying at least know you had no idea what you were doing?

I think the point has been settled by Joe already.

To offer a compromise before this derails:

  1. You should continue the discussion about code quality in private, doing this here is not the place, it has already been stated that there are issues
  2. Riziing I'd recommend you not doing paid lua jobs anymore until you've improved a bit more. Also, by asking for proof you kinda started this, I guess you learned your lesson.
  3. Your graphic stuff is quite nice, keep it up :)

Ironic, However i agree fully.

--edit--

Id probably handle the optimizations differently but I cant argue it isnt a better idea.

Agreed, due to the high demand in graphic design I think I'm going to quit everything else and stick to it! Furthermore I'll be spending time learning how to code as well as publishing workshop addons.
