Resell / giveaway custom script purchased though here?

I have a lot of scripts which was created by lua developer though scriptfodder portal. Short story, my server went to grave and I pulled the plug, now I'm bored, and consider to give out these scripts free or sell. Before I do anything, I will ask, are there any rules about that? I'v never signed any contract with my developers, and paid them pluss bonus for each job. Are I'm at risk of getting banned, if reselling those scripts?

**Disclaimer: Not scripts from marketplace. **

I'm not entirely sure. It's an interesting debate.

To be honest, whenever I get work done I ensure that I pay for full rights. However, in the case of them turning around and saying that I didn't have the right to resell - without any chat evidence I'm unsure which way it would turn.

If I did private work for you and you RESOLD it I'd be hella pissed. However, if you just released it free/gave it out to a bunch of people for FREE I wouldn't really care...

Although, I think in regards to legal matters it all depends on the license set.

Thank you for the reply, I kinda dont need money, in that case I could prob give it for free. In my opinion I really don't see any wrong doing when giving away something "you" paid for. I should contact the developers of certain scripts in advance to ask. Beside one bastard, he resold what he made to me to another community, bastard :D

Just to be sure, you paid him to code things, and you wanna resell them here ?

If you didn't code them yourself, there is no way you can give support for them, it's not legally your code, you paid for their time only since you didn't sign anything

Agreeing with Lapin on this one.

Even if you were allowed to sell it, how would you support it? Unless you have development experience, it'd just end up being a dead addon upon release. Since you can't push updates for it - unless you pay another developer to support it.

I don't see anything wrong with you releasing them for free. However, if you can sell them, the normal thing to do would be to commission the previous developer(s) and ask them to possibly help support it.

Uh, I belive you gotten me wrong buddy. I was more into either selling them private to 1 community, and with that no support will be given after.

Edit: Quiting gmod, thats why I wanna get rid of the scripts.

The scripts in questions, were they from gmodstore jobs or how did you make an agreement with the developer(s)?

Mainly through jobs.

Progress:

  1. Gave developer a description about the idea.

  2. Gave him demonstration in gmod.

  3. Ect..

  4. When finished, paid the job and got the product.

  5. Calculated a extra bonus and transferred.

Any error occurs in later they have been nice to help me, some did quite and I had to assign some scripts for fix to other developers. Mainly there was no contract signed, but perhaps scriptfodder have a guidance for incense? I always used the stock incense.

Hmm, giving away? Sure, but re-selling wouldn't be cool.

Contacted 1 of my former developer, he replied "You paid for them, its yours" Do whatever you want with them.

I will try to reach out to my other developer also to make sure about linens ect. This may be market to solved / closed now. Thanks everyone

As long as you verify with them that they're okay with it, then just keep that proof.

However please keep in mind people may expect you to support these scripts, and if you can't do that, then you shouldn't sell them (and shouldn't expect the original dev to fix them). Whatever you sell you should be able to fix.

They are not very interesting: http://www.claimsservers.com/ Very basic and simple scripts among a few better ones. Don't think it's worth selling on GMS although I could help you upload these on the workshop if ya want.
