Where to learn more coding?

Hi, thank you for reading the thread.

I'd like to start of with telling that I'm not even close to be experienced in the language and I barely have any experience at all in Lua. I've always been interested in coding since I was young and I've started of sometimes but I usually stop because I barely learn anything from the websites that are useful for Garry's Mod.

So the question is, where can I learn more coding, I don't really care how long it will take, if it takes a month or a year, I'm patient and I'd like to learn more because gaming is my hobby, and instead of just playing the whole time I'm on the computer, I want to do something useful, creating content.

Again, thank you for reading and any help will be most appreciated.

Best Regards, Nickolay

Just go! Create! There's nothing stopping you. There's no course you have to take. No magical one-size-fits all solution. Just bring any idea you have to reality!

Edited Another thing, there's nothing from stopping you from going on the workshop and seeing how those addons tick. You can always go here http://wiki.garrysmod.com/page/Main_Page to see what the functions used are supposed to do

When I first started Lua -- I opened up other developer's scripts as ARitz said; to see how it ticks. Sometimes I'd find two scripts by completely different developers that were suppose to do the same thing and compare them, to see which method was better and why. As long as your not using their code in your script, and you're learning from it, there's nothing wrong with that. I've had a few people here and there mentor me when I first started, and they showed me their methods for doing things, and then I'd tweak them for what would work for me.

Take things apart, break them, re-work them. One of the biggest things about doing Lua, is if you break something, you need to learn why it's broke, and how to fix it. So don't be afraid to break shit, because learning how to fix it is far more valuable.

Best of luck.

As ARitz also said; use the gmod wiki -- it is your bible. I always keep that page open in my browser when I'm working. It's a nice quick-reference to things that you may not mention off of the top of your head.
