Help with choosing a provider
Back in January, I had a server with SerenityServers ( little did I know how bad they were ) and everything went great for the first few months. Eventually, we were getting slammed with DDoSes all of the time, which really affected our community. Now that it's Summer and I have free time, I'd like to swap to a new host. It'll be a 32 slot DarkRP server. Who would you guys recommend? I've always heard NFO, but they're not too cheap, but I'm willing to pay for quality.
NFO is quality, they're not as expensive as most server hosts.
Although if people cry to you about them try https://hosthavoc.com/

Have you heard anything about https://nodeblast.com/ ? I saw on a post on different thread about someone saying they're good.
Why not buy a VPS/Dedibox and not have to care about hosting companies?
We have some interesting options over @ www.cridentnetworks.com For no-bullshit direct pricing, goto www.garrysmod.online Obviously I'm bias though.

kys, he meant good hosting companies.
What Neth said - get a VPS. Otherwise you're likely to pay a bunch of money for some shitty support and non-existent DDoS protection.
I shall quote myself from another post similar to this, this is only my opinion however.
If you are using Serenity, they aren't very good for big servers and are more aimed at the small communities. They try to squeeze about 3-4 servers per core and it just doesn't work. I personally don't like companies that put more than one server on a core as a server can easily go to 100% in no time. I use NodeBlast which uses E3-1231 V3 or i7 4790k CPUs. They have to be some of the best CPUs for Garry's Mod's single performance. They also have this small disclosure which I like.
Each customer gets a Dedicated HT CPU Core, this means no restrictions on CPU Usage for your server. This allows you to host very CPU Intensive Gamemodes such as DarkRP on Garry's Mod.
NFO also do have good hardware, but are a very expensive company due to the branding and 24/7 support which isn't all that great.
So as mentioned above, it may not be your server which is the problem, it could be your host limiting you on resources. I would confront them about this and see what deal you can squeeze with them, or look for another place to host.
Here is my response to someone mentioning NFO:
I wouldn't say they are superior, they just have a big name and they have been around for a long time. Their prices are through the roof also.
Pingley, if you're concerned about free webhosting, NB (NodeBlast) gives web hosting for free with any gameserver which has unlimited usage except for a max storage space of 250MB (why would you need more? (Also, FastDL is on a different web server))
They also do not protect against source attacks, hence why when I hosted with them for my CS:GO server, I moved to NodeBlast. I think I gave them a pretty cruddy review because of them saying they did protect them, but only at a basic level which they convinced me it would protect.
Once again, this is only my opinion and I believe that this is the best alternative (for what I need) and are very good for Garry's Mod & CS:GO hosting.

Never heard of them or used them before.
Here is a review site if you haven't heard of them, it's not really advertised to leave reputation but this is how I found them originally.

EDIT: I kept this reply separate as the previous one was getting a tad long and would confuse others if I started talking about something else.

Oh, well I'm the only "owner" if you must call it that - how do I cause the hosting to be bad?
You really didn't get the joke, so I had to go into offensivity.. next time I'll drag out a sign to make sure I'm not misinterpreted.

This made me a bit butthurt. Its actually quite annoying when hosts take as much as they can and then just try to undercut everyone else as their unique selling point. Really that doesn't sound financially safe.
They seem to use OVH (If they aren't then they are probably paying more than these prices), so an i7 machine is £59. Lets assume they get only get the i7's as the E3's are a bit more expensive. So thats 8 cores, and 8 game servers to them. So if I ordered 8 of their gmod servers they could be loosing up to £36.6 a month while landing 8 new customers that want support. Running a host; I get a lot of people ordering the smallest slot server for just a development server, mess around with mates, simply low on money. Regardless of what reason, its common. I'd love to see if they're actually holding up to that, but I struggle to believe it until see it. Seems more like a charity than a business.
Also, keep in mind OVH doesn't let you use their game protection on the E3 servers. Unless they have their own layer 7 filters. You'd imagine if they have their own layer 7 filters they would try to advertise it as a USP, because looking at their site, they don't offer much out of the norm.

They don't use OVH, as I have my own dedicated server with them. Also everything does go through their own filters but I don't think they would be happy with me disclosing the information. I know it's not for much profit, otherwise it would've been down in the first month. The CEO believes that bigger companies over charge by a lot and try to make too much out of the end user.
I'm not the suitable person to go on about this with, as I cannot speak for them however I know for sure that it is not OVH and they are in the profit region.

my mistake - they use hydracomm - same as me currently. So they're paying closer to snip. Voxility ( Their DDoS mitigation vendor ) is also super shitty just launch the attack below 30mbps or smth and their filters wont even try to stop it and thats enough to drop source. Hopefully they include some kind of PPS check.
I should stop myself before I upset someone.

Nor do they use HydraComm, why are you trying to force feed incorrect information?
I'm sorry, but you can't exactly comment on a company you have no knowledge on what-so-ever. You are going by your own assumption, and so far, it is incorrect.

I'm trying to work out whats going on. I don't understand why its all so hush hush if they're actually doing what they say. But I think you're right - they don't use Hydra, I just saw Voxility and bandwidth and made an assumption as they're the same providers Hydra use.
