Please answer one quick question!
I'm looking to make a role playing server and I'm stuck between two things. I want to either A, use DarkRP as the base and expand upon it like everyone else or B, create my own roleplaying base from scratch. As a player would you prefer playing on DarkRP or would you want something similar to DarkRP, but it isn't exactly DarkRP? The differences between the two I can't really dive into yet, because I haven't made much plans, however just know one wouldn't be DarkRP. Does that drive you away or welcome you? It's a vague question, any decent feedback would be great. Let me know what you think!
I personally dislike DarkRP, seriously. If you have the motivation to do it, do a custom roleplaying base from scratch. Nowadays I think only servers like monolith, perp or santos are worth playing.
It also depends what playerbase you're going for, so many people enjoy DarkRP but I'm just not one of them, I prefer more serious roleplay.

I can agree with you there, for I do aswell enjoy a more serious roleplay. I’m along the lines of making a custom base for it, however I’m just worried that my work will go to waste because it won’t be able to bring in any form of player base. ( Also taking advice on how to get players hooked, if anyone’s willing to share some tips and tricks. )

I get what you mean, I can see that happening. I think the best way is advertisement, perhaps a youtuber that can attract his viewers?

That doesn’t seem like a bad idea at all. I just need to find someone who would be willing and wouldn’t charge me an arm and a leg.
I would recommend starting by DarkRP then making another one after you get a player base.
Personally, If its DarkRP I'm Driven away, Now adays I dont even bother with looking at any DarkRP Derived Gamemodes, Now the Question is, What sort of setting for Roleplay are you looking to do? SeriousRP of something Imaginary like CyberpunkRP or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. RP Or Metro 2033 RP Or something of the sorts, Go for either Nutscript or Clockwork, Are you looking to make something like PERP/CityRP and so on where people buy stuff and try to be Criminals and make money etc, etc the Usual, I'd say go ahead and make your own Custom Gamemode aslong as its Semi-Serious or a Fool around thing, Now something you need to be wary of, Alot of people make Stuff like SantosRP and so on and call it "SeriousRP", SeriousRP means No Microphones, No Stupid things that wouldnt fit in the lore of whatever your working on, It means any action you do In-game is going to be done through a long descriptive message trying to describe what you are trying to do So thats another thing I just wanted to point out as alot of people think if you add the rule if someone has a weapon pointed at you its FearRP Then they can label their server as SeriousRP, Simply start off by deciding what is the Idea your looking to accomplish and move on from there, I hope my Opinion comes of help, I'll stay tuned on this to see how this goes.
I've just read your comments and seen your interested in SeriousRP, Some of the tips above will come in handy, Now on how to get players hooked, A Few examples of things that you would need to ensure your server keeps surviving and having a steady playerbase: -A Good Idea that will Interest the players Or the theme of what the server is Revolving about, For example HL2RP is Dead. -A Steady and active staff team to constantly host Interesting events for the server. -SeriousRP Servers do not need alot of custom Content, Just the relative things you would need for the server's theme and so on. -A Well-writen Lore or so of the Current setting taking place in the server so players know whats up -Custom Content (Not just Scripts) such as Models, Maps, Weapons and so on from the Universe of the Setting or Lore you are using is always a Huge +1
