Why do you crazies work for so cheap?
I love looking at these job offers and looking at how you're all being ripped off. The minimum wage in the United States is $7.25/hr. Programming is definitely not a minimum wage job, neither is level design. If someone is offering you $50 to make a map, and you're a half-decent mapper, that map will take you at least 10-15 hours of work. You're therefore working for $3.50/hr... People paying you $5 to write a script that takes two or more hours to make, why are you working for $2.50/hr? For something as simple as a little menu that lets you connect to other servers I'd charge $50. Why are you letting these kids pay you pocket change for legitimate professional work that should be done for their real pay rates in the workforce?
Just my two cents...
Because most of us aren't professionals in their work. Most "graphics designer" like me don't work professional, they do it as their hobby. Same goes for Lua devs, most of them don't reach the quality/professionality of someone doing this as his actual job. That does NOT apply to everyone here of course, there are some very talented people doing lua/graphics design as their actual job, but most people don't.
Btw: Doing graphics design is an easy and quick way to do money, so you can't really demand much for it.
If you want to earn 7.25$/hr then search for a real job, don't search for some crappy job offers here on ScriptFodder, Scriptfodder is for EVERYONE.
And I personally work very cheap/for free just to make people happy. You're happy if you get something for free -> Why are you happy? -> Because there are people doing stuff for free.
I take it upon myself to delete jobs that I feel are undershooting the budget way too far.
On terms of personal work, I've declined jobs that want to offer me too little, as they're paying not only for my time, but my knowledge as well. This is where a lot of people seem to fall into the trap of...
Well I don't know how to do this, but I'm sure it's so easy! I'll just give them a buck or two, and call it a day!
Which irritates me beyond belief.
Some people are more novices when it comes to things, so they'll be okay with accepting that lesser amount. This does add to the problem in a whole other regard, but like I said I will personally decline work if I feel they're underestimating my skills and knowledge, and want to try and underpay me.
The main thing is to keep in mind a lot of these people are children. They're in High School or younger, and they don't have access to income as easily. So they'll nickle and dime for every little thing.
It's just the way it is sadly.
It depends on the type of work being carried out. As Momox said, because theres loads of GFX artists, the price cost narrows because theres so many of them, and because its quick and easy. For modellers like me, its a bit more different since its much harder than doing GFX design, and theres less of them. None of us (maybe a few) are on a proffesional level, so we can't actually charge a proffesional/high pric, since itll put off the client and thats a potiential payment gone.
And yeah, most people on this site are children, both mentally and financially
Behind the 'facade' of ScriptFodder you will find alot of jobs that really do over pay, I really don't think it is as bad as you guys think it is. In the 4 months I have been apart of ScriptFodder I have roughly grossed around $537.62 USD (doing really simple jobs, even some jobs they could look up to do) which is alot of money for what I have actually done and trust me it does not involve Lua knowledge at all - you just have to spend a little bit of time looking around for the certain ones =)
Suggestions:
- Ask - just because the budget is low ask if you can go higher.
- Look - some people may put "Website Developer" though when you actually click on the job all they need is Prometheus setup.
- Look for jobs that are really dumb it may be something like "i need a professional developer" in the desc of the job from experience these people pay alot for really simple stuff.
- Don't be afraid - just because someone is looking for a "professional logo" or "professional developer" does not mean they need one. In the example of the "professional logo" some individuals may think they need a professional though at the end of the day the logos they are looking for could be created on a free logo creator.
Anyways I hoped I helped in some way =)

I need to disagree. How do I know that it's not as great as you're making it? I delete a lot of jobs, and have to deal with these people undercharging.
No offense, but when I see $10 for a complete addon involving a ton of different features - that is undercharging. If I also am aware, you take the easier jobs that are easy to set up, or quick to do. This would give you your "gross amount" in such a time frame. We're talking about jobs involving maps, models, bigger addons, etc.
Well, Many people here do things on scriptfodder in there spare time, not as real jobs. So they can't expect high prices unless doing something that is extremely difficult and time consuming. Such as an entire game mode which would usually be 24/7 jobs.

I can't agree with this. When you're doing a job, you should and need to be paid for your time AND your knowledge. They're hiring you because they can't do it, and you know how to.
Each job is different obviously, but I can't say "well they do this in their spare time" is the right way to go about things.
Well, I think I phrased that poorly. I was going for 'Scriptfodder isn't a full time job' but it came out sloppy.

Even if it isn't a full time job, I'm not going to take less for the free time that I am putting into this.
Look at it this way. I work full time, and I go to school full time. Whatever free time I do have, if I spend it on jobs I am sure as hell getting paid fairly. I am not going to take less just because it's "not a full time job".
How do you think self employed people survive? By not taking less because it's not "full time".
sf is a kiddy pool that's pretty much it, real freelancing is something way beyond what everyone is doing right now especially for the people who haven't graduated from setting up darkrp servers.
Usually if you're good at your job here you'd charge a tad bit more than the meta prices and people will roll with you cause they know you can do the job.
The only job category I can see making actual profit on here is: Gamemodes, commercial websites, and maps(actual made from scratch maps).
