I guess that's just your opinion man. I wanna use scripts which are good but sometimes I'mforced to buyto try.

I didn't say need. What I should have said is REQUIRED _to try. _

What I find hard about reviews is the buyers not understanding where the sellers are coming from. Most of the people on here who are developers either own a server, have owned a server, or have developed for a server. With that said, they understand what it is like to have to purchase scripts and deal with issues that may come with said script. A buyer who has never been on the selling end doesn't have the same awareness as to all of odd issues that can come from Garry's Mod, and as a result, may give a review that is not suitable to all buyers.

That's certainly true.

Being on both ends of this I feel i can speak for both sides.

AS A SELLER I am perfectly ok with no comment 4-5 star reviews. anything under 4 stars though and i want to know how I can improve my script. "Not what i thought it was" comments on reviews should be invalid

AS A BUYER Because i am a seller as well i generally leave detailed reviews so as to either motivate the seller to do better or thank them for doing a great job If something looks like crap but is functional it will likely get a 3 star review from me If the support leaves something to be desired, and the issue does not get resolved in a timely manner (a week?) <3 star review. If i have to dig into someone else's code in order to fix an issue i reported a month ago then they will get a 1 star review. (so long as i dont find a conflict with one of my other addons while digging) If the dev is an asshole, 1 star review (bad customer support resulting in a useless addon because i do not deal with shit people when i can just move on to something else or code it myself)

This type of stuff is what really causes developers to completely abandon ship. A lot of buyers on this site are toxic as hell and expect everything to be handed to them. Not once did I announce that mGangs was going to be depreciated and that I was abandoning any of it (including the DLC's).

He literally states that the script works but because I disabled the DLC's, it deserves a 1-star review. He completely forgets about the fact that he just used the script for nearly a year and that his players loved it (which was said to me in a ticket). These reviews are anger driven and ignorant. Unfortunately, they're one of the most prevalent types reviews I've seen. It's demotivating and doesn't help when someone can't give constructive criticism back and instead just berates the developer.

We (developers) are literally one person, we can only do so much.

I really feel like there should be a heavy change to the review system, seeming it's so heavily manipulable by the buyers.

Sounds like your about censorship of peoples opinions of your products, seems like a you problem. Not all my reviews are bad just ones where my experience has been bad. In the example bought 2 years ago, never had an issue, always quick to support, works, not depracted stuff bring out new shit while "fixing" his old shit. smh its people opinions you either dont have reviews or you let users give their opinions wether you like them or not, it'll look worse for the site to remove reviews imho.

In your review whats wrong with it still working? just because it works doesnt mean it wasnt a bad purchasing experience i regret doing for my users. But it would also be unfair to you if i didnt say it was working i felt thats why i said its working, to give you some slack. but clearly your only arsed about the star rating.

You might be just one person, but your a person who decided to exchange their work and time for other peoples work and time (money)

The fact that it still works after 2 years means it is being kept updated. the simple fact that it works/support is good means it should be atleast a 3 star if not more.

You dont expect windows 98 to still be fully functional with new features being released while a new version is out do you? yet windows 98 still gets a 4 star review "IMHO"

My favorite review that i feel is bullshit (my only 1 star review)

no im talking about addosn that got good reviews for the example posted in the screenie casinokit couldnt recommend it anymore

got a bad review and come here to get mad about it and get some kind of recognition from peers, we understood perfectly well its okay mate, its a bad review if your as on point as you say youve got nothing to worry about have you.

Any potential future problems have now been resolved by stopping him from even purchasing anything from me.

i guess the discussion is over and no ones agree, so what do we do

Edit :

I still think the text only review is the best system.

Pros :

1. No more 5/5 empty reviews
2. No more "script is perfect" while rating it 4/5
3. Which leads to less work for mods since they won't have to remove as much reviews

Cons

1. No more average /5 rating
2. No more +/- rep (Edit : for script only obviously)

That’s the only one i disagree with, i can think +/- rep should stay for jobs, as then people who take the jobs know if he’s a scammer, etc

Obvs rep would stay for fucking jobs. Rep currently is also determined by script reviews. 4-5 is +1, 3 is 0, and 1-2 is -1.

I've been keeping the discussion open since I want to see if anyone brings any new ideas/clarifies a few points that people have disagreed on so far.

This is something I want to try and be open and straight forward about, since once its in place I don't want to be changing it around.

I mean the review is kind of unnecessary because at least you answered the ticket
