"Lua Panic Not Enough Memory"

Last read Never

Hello, I run a DarkRP server, have been running one for about 2 years now... For the past few months clients have been getting a "LUA Panic Not Enough Memory" Error which leads to their games crashing. I am honestly not sure what is causing this and simply removing one addon at a time and adding them back one by one is not a plausible solution because it happens so randomly. I am sure there is a fix to put into my server but have yet to find it... Any help is awesome. Thank you!

Hey there.

This addon may help you and your clients. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1081414406 Add that to your workshop.lua (1081414406) and it should help counter the effects.

I had this same issue a few months ago, after debugging I figured out that it was Utime.

Funny thing is, I also use Utime. Thank you for the help

I saw a thread about this a month or 2 back. I had this issue, it turned out for me that a sloppy addon I'd written was sending a massive table to the player on join. This table got bigger the more the player played, so I found out about it because my more dedicated members were the ones with the issue. I suggest investigating addons that involve building up data over long periods of time like car dealers of thing with inventories.

Hope that helps

All this addon does is telling the garbage collector to run more often.

What does the garbage collector do? It deletes objects that are marked as unreachable.

MyFancyVariable = true --constructs a boolean and assign it to MyFancyVariable.

MyFancyVariable = nil --set MyFancyVariable to nil and the boolean becomes unreachable thus the collector will delete it.

Stuff like Derma panels, which have some sort of handle in the game itself, are harder to track for the garbage collector and most likely the main cause of the error. You can run the collector as often as you like, it won't do much against this other than eat cpu time.

Even though this addon may possibly help to delay a crash, it won't prevent them. Besides the garbage collector doesn't need help to determine when to run. Lua's garbage collector is quite smart in figuring out when to run and how to minimize any performance impact. Forcing it to run more often is rather pointless.

this error occurs when trying to change global variables in the game itself. Essentially what that addon krašit client. otherwise, no way. Example: _R[2]=nil _R[2] == _G

If Lua is panicking then maybe you should calm it down with some fresh RAM soup
