Amazon Alexa + GMOD
Hey, I have been recently looking into the capabilities of Amazon's Echo devices and Alexa, and realizing that Alexa can query websites for information. Can GMOD servers be directly queried for data ? And if so is there a function that is called when a data request is received?
I assume that you would need to run .dll module like the a python module that receives the request and calls a lua function with the received data.
I wanted to do something like this. Not sure how but I want whatever you come up with!
I have been looking into asking Alexa to get the user count, or the map name, or even the current admins on the server etc...
I guess you could store it in a database and get it there?

There are libraries like this that allow you to query public information like player count etc
Edit: You can also run RCON commands, I'm sure that'd be fun to do through voice hahaha

Storing it in a database is incredibly annoying and requires database information and building a framework for the skill to report whether the database is successfully connected or not. That can be quite frustrating whereas instead, it could be easier to query the server to ask for permission to link to that server, if the server has the addon and replies giving permission to link to the server, the server can be queried at any point.
I wanted to code my own google assistant thing for GHomes but gmod tts unofficial api is shit, voice is not realistic

What you could do instead, is write a google assistant "thing" for gmod to query how long until your property expires ?
What i also just thought is to get alexa / google assistant to query GMODStore to get your current earnings this month or report your sales figures etc...
can i do support tickets with alexa????
to answer them

to answer them
I mean, im not sure whether gmodstore's API allows for a dev to reply to a report ticket but i think that it would be counterproductive because you wouldn't be able to use the markup etc... It would be a very convoluted way to deal with support tickets.
I was jokingggg
I mean, using a php library is the easy route, but if you want it to be efficient, you can read up on how to send packets to the servers and read the response and shiz. https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Server_queries

That means that i would need to write into Alexa how to write those packets and how to interpret them. With the PHP library, the information is already organised which makes it super easy to interpret them with Alexa.

Easy doesn't always mean better. Forcing a dependency such that a user requires a webserver with php installed just to do a basic server query is pointless. If anything, look at the source of the php query library and how it reads the packets from the response.

I have currently have alexa requesting the data but i am stuck when returning the data back to Alexa and then reading the data. I am a javascript noob xD so applying what little PHP knowledge i have to alexa is a struggle.
It was an idea that i can't execute, but hopefully someone with php + javascript knowledge can make it work.

Iš this possible with Google home? Just got it instead of echo, so disappointed.. This sounds awesome, however, would definitely be a redeeming factor.
Use IFTT, you can use webhooks, configure google home to understand what yer saying, webhook on a sentence, webhook oon a sentence with a string and number etc
"Hey google, kick the fucker with the steamID *Seven Six Five Six One One Niner Seven Niner Niner Six Eight Five Niner One One Niner *"
