Script Idea: Discord Roles <=> ULX Sync
All in the title. It'd be great to have a script that could take discord ranks, check a config to see which ULX rank fits with which discord role, then assigns it to the user on discord by checking the steam account linked to their discord, or via the user using something like "!assign <Steam ID>" on discord, then "!assignconfirm" on Garry's Mod to confirm their identity. It would need a custom bot the person using the script could add to their server, or it might be able to use web hooks and Dyno bot but that'd be real janky.
Ways to expand the script further:
- It'd also be good if this could work on multiple servers with different rank assignment configurations, but the same discord. You can use the gmodstore license key as an API key for your bot, and allow servers to share an API key for one discord server. Guess that's also a way of DRMing, since if it's leaked they would have to share a discord server.
- If you can be bothered, you could expand it further by adding a MyBB/Xenforo/IPS syncing feature, with different config options of which ranks link with which
- An optional feature to sync between gmod servers.
Happy to help test out prototypes. I've got a discord, gmod server, mybb, and a mysql database to test with.
SO when someone fucks over your discord / server, BOTH are fucked.
Lol this prob only happens to me, but i get my discord and server destroyed by rouge superadmins far too often.

I do very much so enjoy the concept of this. However, I feel that it's a huge security floor if your permissions aren't airtight.

Sounds more like an end user caused issue.
Regardless just add a blacklist of roles that need to be manually added then, such as any staff member role.
I've written something like this that syncs Discord ranks, ULX ranks and MyBB ranks. I didn't like it at all, though, as having to assign the Steam ID manually by typing commands to a bot is not intuitive at all.
Here's hoping Discord will provide API support for the existing Steam integration.
