How did you learn GLua?
Hey everyone, seasoned server manager here. I've relied heavily on ScriptFodder for my server's addons and script support, but I want to be able to develop things for myself now. I'm just looking to see where and how all of you developers out there got all of your lua knowledge, and where the best place for me to start is. Thanks in advance for your advice!
I was hit in the head by a blunt object.
lol hahaa
A lot of users typically just learn right out of the gates, no tutorials just reverse engineering scripts, I currently do that with dera atm. But yeah it's not something you can learn overnight but obviously rewarding if you get good at it. Hope that helps OP

I just used basic knowledge + wiki and turned it into something. I'm learning by just challenging myself to make something new.
Reverse engineering, asking for help on forums, and reading documentation (Garry's Mod Wiki and Programming in Lua).
I ended up working on projects initially. NPC-Information ended up being my first creation that someone ended up helping me with. After that it was just working on different things to improve.
i tried to make something complex and it ended up in errors then ended up working and i hated lua after that so i quit lua in general and refuse to re-do it.
The wiki is love, the wiki is live.
Saw a cool TTT HUD, wanted it myself, but owner wouldnt sell me it (this was before shit like CH) so I had to learn to do it myself. Found out really fast I loved coding. I usually learnt by reserve engeering/studying code, but a friend of mine was also a huge help as he answered most of my questions. Also Acecool, sick guy, just _retarded; _variable; __naming;
Talking to other developers, devs that were nice enough to mentor me, reverse engineering scripts when I ran my own set of servers and modifying them to how I needed them to be. And a huge part of it was the Garry's Mod Wiki (your GLua bible).
Honestly, the way I got into GLua was through my old friend Richard whom took me into his community, LobsterBuild, 2014. Through him, I not only learned social skills and how to handle many stressful situations, I also became inspired by his projects and began learning about GLua. Despite him being a very wonderful and dear friend of mine, he has taught me everything I know and was a wonderful mentor. Earlier this week, he and I released the first script he and I created together in our new collection, Gemerosity. In short, the reason I learned GLua was thanks to the spark of inspiration that Richard had ignited the day he accepted my staff application.
