Server Owners: AMD?

AMD have been pulling a lot of tricks out their hat recently, and I wanted to know how server owners felt about the i7's vs AMD's 3800x range

I feel like for single threaded games such as Garrys mod it’s a really marginal difference if any. But for games that can use multiple threads or a sync (like Minecraft) the higher multi core performance would likely help the server perform better than on an i7.

Back in days I used AMD on my workhorse (editing computer) I could load gmod instant and servers like candy food. After switching over to Intel i no longer can load gmod instant and such, it always have that "not responding" waiting time.

I would go for AMD if your into workhorse machine, and intel if your a gamer that plays other games than gmod. If your whole idea is using the computer for multitasking work, go for amd

We did some tests & the newer AMD CPU's surprised me with how good they're doing on single threaded workloads, too! With Garry's Mod being single threaded they seem like a good option now

Not for long. COUGH 64 bit COUGH

Don't think 64 bit adds multi-threaded support, could be wrong though. Not sure if anyone is really fully aware of the implications 64 bit servers will have for Garry's Mod

Garry's Mod is a source engine game, it'll most likely always be limited to single threading.
