I like how multiple people have complained about crashing servers etc and he is turning around and blaming addons etc even to people that have coding experience. You could just admit your servers hardware has issues.

what are you on about? half the addons on here are poorly optimized and are made by people with little coding experience get ur head out ur ass and use logic for once

I think Commander is refering to the popular addons, which get used on a lot of servers - which actually are normally made well enough. If an addon has crash issues normally users work it out, like with Velkons RealSnow (which wasnt velkons fault! but its just an easy example i know, others include ARCLib when that had a memory leak)

Point is; people are good at working out the addons crashing their server when that server makes them thousands a month. It’s easy to justify sitting through and painfully disabling them until you find the issue addon

my point is idk why people are calling ertug a liar when literally the top servers use it with little issues (afaik) You just have to be careful when it comes to placing random addons on ur server because not all servers will have the same impact. Not to mention a lot of the top selling addons have DRMs so we don't even know if they're properly optimized :P

I think with disk speed more than entities where you notice the huge hit is when there are addons like ULX, ARCBank, and others that store a lot of data in text files. (This is why KingOfBeast & Penguin can sell D3A for hundreds at a pop, because it gets really bad with ULX)Afaik, the game thread freezes while writing to the disk & I/O block could worsen this. It’s more measurable on shared hosting where typically the disks are under more load than say a private dediI can say that my US server (w/ gmc) crashes about 3 times for each time my EU server crashes & the EU (w/o gmc) server gets about double the player count. The servers are as identical as I can make them & I have actually asked you about it before Ertug.I don’t know if its a real thing on your end - but I at least wouldn’t brush off the reports. I remember you mentioning to me that you have something on your servers to try and stop crazy physics crashes, I would look at that first personally, as physics is fucky

The anti-crash system is a tick option in the command line editor. It is turned off by default. Remember that the same system is relied on by the majority of our dedicated machine clients. None of our clients have ever reported performance issues or crashing issues that weren't directly caused by one of their server addons, server modules, in game or a direct network attack which is patched immediately if there is a new attack at all which is unlikely.

EditedIt is reasonable to consider the possibility something could be causing issues on a host level if a series of people claim so. It’s not impossible how GMC manages his file system could cause some freak crash issue for example - if he had something which updated file permissions while the server was running; this can trigger those files to Live Lua Refresh, and I could imagine every lua file suddenly reloding causing issues.I don’t know or think this is the issue (if there is one) - I’m simply using it as an example that the possibility is there if you actually think.Ertug has also told me (and others) that he has some module on his servers which aims to prevent crazy physics crashes. Isn’t it also possible this could induce a crash?

Lua refresh is turned off by default. Nobody in their right mind should ever turn that on unless they are strictly developing which even then, I would not recommend it at all. The anti-prop spam system cannot crash the server; it's not physically possible. It's turned off by default and can be turned on live via the command line editor as well.

EditedI think he’s implying that by these people having this knowledge they’re more credible, and in turn less likely to simply be having a crash caused by an addon or something else trivialBut you say you’ve seen this issue hundreds of times? Isn’t that concerning?

I'm not saying that people that are reporting issues to me aren't credible. What I'm saying is that they need to be as specific as possible when contacting us and also when making claims/accusations. When people contact me with a one line statement with as little information as possible, I cannot recommend them to do much.

It is indeed concerning that I've seen hundreds of clients set up their servers improperly to the point where it was in a crashing loop, had major performance issues or outright crashed when doing normal tasks.

I think the reality is that people are pissed off because of how he dismissed it so quickly honestly. The top servers that do use GMC do not use his shared hosting; which is what we're talking about. Sup for example use their own management system when I last checked.

This is something I personally found frustrating while expressing the higher crash volume on my US server to Ertug.

it's not caused by that

I'm not saying the crashing is caused by that - I'm simply using them as examples for KOB that there can be crashing caused by the host & we just might not know what's causing it right now.

I'm not credible? The fact I've said I have two almost mirror servers & the one on GMC crashes 3 times more on average even though it gets half the players? This is a waste of time, if you know there isn't an issue; I guess that's the case closed then.

I'm used to dealing with the same issues over and over to the point where it's muscle memory. I only speak boldly if I have dealt with the same thing over and over and over to the point where there is no doubt at all. If I were a novice, then I would completely agree with you, but I've been around the block many many times. I've given clients the benefit of the doubt and ripped apart machines in the past to find out that it's one of their server add-ons that they "forgot about" or "weren't aware of". I'm still open-minded, but I need as much information as possible such as a net_graph 4 result or an in-depth explanation of what is happening.

All of our packages offer dedicated resources which I know that you're very aware of. Most of the top servers rely on our managed solution which is the same service that we offer with our premium package. You still haven't contacted me directly as well. The only difference between your EU server and your US server is most likely how far the MySQL server is. I would look into that before anything else. I have a client who is in the top 20 that is on your premium machine funnily enough as well. They haven't reported much to me as far as I'm aware.

EDIT:

I understand that you're just attempting to find the cause but I'm telling you that there really isn't anything as far as I'm aware on my end that would cause you any issues. There is always a reasonable explanation for everything. I'm surprised that I have to tell this to you as you probably experienced this countless times too.

I personally never said it is caused by GMC - I only just started considering that after the posts in this thread. Until now I've assumed it's something I have control over.

I mean for you to contact me recently and not months ago. That should also be very obvious, you have me directly on steam which you also know. I haven't seen much immediate congestion between the EU POP and Dallas as of the past month or two.

I understand however again, many of these conversations should be had directly since you have me on steam. It's quite obvious that you're trying to make a show off of it which I don't appreciate.

Actually until you responded I had only acknowledged what other people had said. & after you responded I've only explored the possibility it could be a host issue. Stop trying to paint things in a different light. You're the one calling me "not credible" & claiming I've never mentioned things which I have over Steam - you just ignored it & I didn't push on it because I know how you'll react.

This wasn't even months ago either - it's like 3-4 weeks at max surely. I only recently re-started logging my Steam chats & I'm confident I mentioned it before then, too.

From my perspective, it appeared to turn into a bash GMC fest full of people making false claims and accusations.

I didn't call you "not credible". I said that if anybody contacts me involving performance issues, their server crashing or vice versa, they should give me as much information as possible. Judging from the picture that you provided, it looked like you provided the appropriate information and I responded appropriately as I should after I looked into it and immediately seeing issues.

I don't remember that being at the most before the month of December. I could be wrong since time goes a bit fast but I know that there was a network upgrade at the EU POP a couple of weeks to a month after you contacted me.

You should always follow up regardless of how annoying you may think that you would be or how I would react. I cannot read minds, especially over text. If there are more issues then contact me again and again. I'm not going to be able to read your mind and fix things without you contacting me.

EDIT:

I've also seen you act extremely volatile towards me for the past couple of weeks to a month. If there is an issue with anything then you need to let me know. Like I said, I cannot read minds or know if somebody is unhappy unless they voice their concerns.

it's like talking to a fucking brick wall

there were two issues, your POP routing issues was what you focused on in that chat - I mentioned the crashing there for I think the second or third time I'd passively mentioned it in conversation. You didn't look into the crashing at all, you looked into the undeniable routing issue. Let's not conflate things. If people want to bash GMC, they're allowed to. Just like they can bash Crident. But the issue is that people have nothing to gain from just shitting on you? It's a legitimate concern, instead of just down-talking people & saying they're using shit addons and that they're not credible, or don't know how to set up a server. 2.2 Don't try and imply I'm just trying to bash GMC, because I'm not. I'm just not allowing people like King Of Beast to shill for you spreading bullshit ideas.

I already ruled out that the crashing would be directly caused by something not on our end when you talked to me. The routing issue is an immediate issue affecting the entire infrastructure. You already know that I cannot rip apart a server to debug a server crash. I really expected you to already know that server crashes being caused directly by a hosting provider especially when they give dedicated resources to that level is extremely rare, to be honest.

I'm not annoyed at them criticising, what gets me is when they try to pull information that there is some major performance issue with a hosting provider when in reality it's directly caused by something on their server for a fact. I'm still open to people assuming otherwise and proving me wrong but they need to give me the appropriate information for me to look into any possible leads.

I actually removed this part from my post; but the reason our relationship deteriorated is because you brush people off so easily. When ever I had an issue I felt like a cunt speaking to you about it, because it was just exhausting fighting an uphill battle. I'm confident I've even told you this.

My personality may sometimes seem like I'm being an asshole but I'm just extremely blunt and to the point. If you have an issue that still isn't resolved and you are sure that it's something on my end then contact me and I will attempt to help you with it by looking into things and fixing it if it's on my end or by confirming that it's on your end if that is the case.

Funny how I see people complaining about server crashes left and right... my DarkRP gamemode which was customized to a decent level can pretty much be online infinitely, until I manually restart it. I was on vacation for 8 days during which I did not schedule a server restart, and it was online for the whole 8 days. Of course, completely unplayable and lag spikes were through the roof.

I think if anybody uses a dedicated machine with GMC and still experience frequent crashes, they may want to take another look through their addons folder. I cannot speak on the behalf of his shared clients seeing as I never had any experience with one. HOWEVER, I would have to side with Drizzy as I noticed that a faster SSD on a machine can greatly affect performance in-game when storing data. I have no doubt that if shared clients use an HDD, they WILL experience a loss of performance, especially with something like ULX installed.

They will experience a major performance hit if they are using ULX or anything similar in the first place. Any slow HDDs will indeed not help but it shouldn't cause any major issues for servers below the 64 player area.

I will be upgrading our regular game server packages to also run on SSDs when I move them to Dallas, but it really should not be causing any actual issues. Everything else already runs on SSDs. The CPU upgrade will make much more of a difference if anything. People are looking into micro-optimizations or excuses for their server performance when they should just look into optimizing their server.

Yeah I can't imagine shifting through 3 pages and finding unprofessional-ism from not only the hosters but the people who run their communities as a business, I thought this was a review thread not a drama thread.

In the past few replies I've seen people blame Lua and engine crashes on the host. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day has been ruined. Competence is a neat thing when it comes to this but at least be able to recognize that regardless of the machine, srcds isn't going to justcrashunless there's an engine error, a Lua panic/infinite loop, module crash, or the process runs out of memory. Also GMC killed my whole family.

Great posts guys, thanks for making everyone lose a good few thousand brain cells.

You know things have got spicy when a fp mod joins in on the conversation.

But I will vouch for Crident because they ain't doing shady things with fake pings etc as some of the other hosters here are.

I'm here to look at stuff at the market place and maybe purchase a few things and not gloat my FP mod status. It would help if others didn't either thanks :~)
