Updates to the payment model

Last read Never
#1

We just updated ScriptFodder, there are some changes both buyers and sellers should be made aware of which will be gone over in this post.

Changes to the payment model

As discussed in our previous announcement. We've changed the way our payment model system works, for buyers we now charge VAT if applicable and for sellers developer subscriptions have been replaced by a single commission fee.

Buyers & VAT

Starting from now, if you are buying a script and live in an EU country where VAT is applicable, you will have to pay VAT (value-added tax) on top of item listing fees. The current VAT rates for your country can be found here.

Sellers & VAT

In order to allow our sellers to continue selling to customers legally in the EU, ScriptFodder will now collect VAT from their buyers on their behalf and remit it to the buyer's local authority for the seller. We do this as described here.

Why is VAT charged on my items when I'm based outside of the EU?

VAT on digital items is charged based on the buyer’s location, not where the seller is. If you sell an item to a buyer in the EU, they will be charged VAT on top of their order. It is something the buyer pays; not the seller.

Am I required to be VAT registered?

Nope, all VAT is remitted to the relative tax authorites on items by us, sellers do not have to do anything in addition for this change to take effect.

Sellers, developer subscriptions and the commission fee

As previously discussed in the other announcement, we are removing developer subscriptions completely, this will remove any barrier of entry for content creators wanting to begin selling on the marketplace (other then having their content approved by our curators). The developer subscription will be replaced by a single commission fee starting at 10%, sellers with higher volumes of sales will get reduced rates.

item transactions eu item transactions non-eu

What if I have an existing developer subscription?

Don't worry, you'll get your moneys worth: until your developer subscription expires your commission fee will be set to 0% - you won't pay any extra fees to us on your items sold.

Other features in the update

Because of the changes to the payment model, it has made it a lot easier to introduce certain new features such as coupons and split payments which are both now avaliable on all scripts:

additional authors coupons

Upcoming Changes

We have a lot of features planned for the future, changes coming in August include:

  1. Wishlist - a much requested feature, a place to bookmark scripts that appeal to you and to get notified when they're on sale.
  2. Forum changes - the forums are quite minimal right now, many fixes and features are planned to make them easier and better to use.
  3. A proper markdown editor and many bug fixes to formatting issues and new codes to make formatting easier than before.

Many other bigger changes are planned and are in active development too such as a much needed theme upgrade for the website and a dashboard revamp. If you have any other suggestions there is a megathread in the general discussion area of the forums.

If you find any bugs in this update please post them on the issue tracker. Please try to be as descriptive as possible.

I honestly hate this new system. So many get punished as a result of the fee you now take. We have to pay alot more than we did, rather than 15 dollas a months I could be paying upwards of 100+ a month, and im not even a big seller.

With that amount of sales you're pretty much qualified as a "big seller". We'll set you to 5%

Most online marketplaces take 30% and upwards - sure it's a little up from the previous, but it's still hardly comparable to other services of this type.

Sadly not lol, thanks for blogs billy <3

Edited But VAT is horrible though.

If I ever wanted something expensive like a $40 addon it adds DAMN 10 bucks to the price ffs.

Yeh and I am appreciative of that. But my point is for us who have been using sf for so long to sell stuff making a change like this is huge. I guess ill just get used to it eventually.

I wouldn't say that, you'd lose more than you would paying a dev subscription.
