Dedicated Hosting

Hi guys, I know there's a thread about hosting here already, however they seem to be Managed Servers where as I'm looking for a Dedicated server, I've recently been looking into Zare and I've used them before and they've been pretty good to me. However I'm not actually sure if there Bandwith is capped? I believe it is, anyway, i'm looking for some suggestions, Support isn't a massive factor to me i'm fairly savvy with Dedicated management on my own end, however bandwith and performance is key. I'm needing the kind of specs to handle atleast a full 64 slot server, with possibly a Teamspeak hosted on the dedicated box along with it (May get a seperate box for TS because you know .. DDOS can happen.)

Please leave suggestions and a short review of DEDICATED servers not normal game servers below, I want to spend around £100 - £140 a month but could go abit higher. Thanks.

(currently with crident but don't believe they do Dedi Servers)

Have you looked at ovh?

Do you mind me asking why you want to go from shared to a dedi? Chances are you wont notice a performance improvement beyond the placebo effect

If you’re doing it to cut costs down on multiple servers we can look into high volume discounts

Shared is the worst unless you got no knowledge on how to operate your own machine which is fairly easy.

How is shared the worst? You have no idea about our shared hosting or how we manage our resources. Our shared hosting is on-par with dedicated server performance. I know most hosts aren't, and that's probably why you assumed that, but it's just not true.

Can't believe I'm actually going to vouch for this, but I have had no issues with Crident performance issue wise. I came from a dedi to their shared hosting and i run a very intensive cpu gamemode.

How do you optimize over 300+ npcs on a map... 🤔

Zare are amateurs honestly, they also love to say shit without thinking. I remember the first machine I had with them got hit off before I was even using it in production, and it took about 2-3 days of back-and-fourth before they even checked if what I was claiming was true. They instantly blamed it on my setup. I remember the latest meme with them was them straight up claiming they could undercut my current deal with OVH, only to give me a quote that was 99p more expensive lmao...

Their Bristol data centre is a kitted out office space, litterally. Last I checked, it had (at max) at 40Gbps uplink to the entire centre, which might not be fully redundant. Back in the day the whole DC was down for close to if not a whole day due to some upstream cables being cut.

You should consider a host like Rackspace if you want managed, or OVH if you know what you're doing.

I prefer the full management to myself side of things, ability to run a TS Server, Webserver, Gameserver all of one is great. (Not that i'd do that all on one box!!!) but the freedome of it is personally better for me, and obviously there is a slight performance increase (dependent on specs) don't get me wrong though, you guys have great services and i've used them multiple times i just prefer self management stuff alot more, i find it more enjoyable and in some ways easier for me

also my opinion on zare is they were okay but after looking deeper in they're pretty crap.

I really miss the choice to add on a extra dev server from you guys too :(

I didn't speak about cridnet it self. Never tried cridnet. So I can't say anything about you guys. But most shared hosts are just milking money and often don't have much technical knowledge to provide good support in a professional manner.

When something goes wrong you could wait days till your issues is fixed.

On a dedicated you are in control - and can correct any issues you get by your self. Unless it's a hardware issue or network (assuming it's at a datacenter).

Shared is good for those with almost no technical knowledge and newcomers.

But if you know what you are doing then dedicated is the way to go.

Again I am not judging your hosting company. This is my experience from all the other million hosting companies I have tried.

Most of them are ran by kid under the age of 18. And most of the time shutdown.

:)))

I prefer dedicated. But the OP should try cridnet if he wants managed. Trying doesn't hurt and Dont cost more than a few bucks. If it sucks then he knows - if it's great then that's awesome :)

Yeah, I understand that. Ultimately that's not the market we're in so if that's what you want I'm not going to try and convince you to use something else - I just wanted to ensure there isn't anything we're doing wrong ;) We use OVH, and I love them. Can't rate them enough - you should really give them a shot

But if you know what you are doing then dedicated is the way to go.

Thanks for the clarification. Even if you know what you're doing, a lot of people don't want the responsibility and requirement to fix all the issues that occur. To provide the kinda reliability we do you simply need years of experience and issues to learn and improve from - so using shared hosting is really a business decision for a lot of larger communities.

There is also redundancy, cost savings and scalability to consider. Eg. say you're running one game server, it'll be cheaper to use shared hosting. Then later you want to launch a second server - it's still probably cheaper to use shared hosting, and you've got increased redundancy as they'll most likely be running on separate dedi's. So if one server goes down from some technical issue, your other is still up. This then kinda feeds into scalablity, you could have one server in the US, and one server in the EU with dedi-performance, and cut costs down massively still. If you want to change your setup later, you can do that easily, and this is why there has been an increase in the demand for our shared hosting.

Hopefully this explains why larger communities are increasingly deciding to use shared hosting :P
