'Special people' who edit your code
So this is the 1000th time people come up to me and tell my script is broke because: "So the script was working, then i edited it, then it stopped working, NOW YOU HELP ME!". Example A:
following the line error he sent:
I'm gonna go ahead and guess he removed the last ')'..
So how many times did it happen to you?
"there's something wrong with your script and its the other person's fault" "All I did was edit the colors" <--I found the other person.
Honestly though if people are going to edit code without knowing the basic syntax, then you can't be at fault imo. I don't know Lua, but as a workaround, could a variable be placed there, so the user can edit the color easily,?
I guess that would be a good idea, yeah. But people cant just tell me my code isn't working after editing files they are not suppose to edit, ESPECIALLY if it worked beforehand.
Ye, it's less about the actual issue but more so that they touch stuff they shouldn't then still expect support... It's like breaking the warranty then still expecting a full refund/repair, stupid....

Just like that Lapin right?
I'm gonna go ahead and guess he removed the last ')'..
You guessed wrong. Don't just assume people have done something wrong. Next time, just act professional instead of an immature idiot and actually help, instead of making pathetic threads like this one.

What was it then? Because the error shows that it was in fact missing a ), and the line he references makes sense.

I have no idea what the problem was. That's why I made the ticket. From experience, the console error doesn't always accurately show where the real error is. As after seeing the error come up, the first thing I did was check that line. I even compared it to the original file and still couldn't find anything different about the line, or anything near it.
Edited I just don't see why some of you content creators need to shit on us Users. Just because we don't know as much about lua as you, doesn't mean we're all idiots. There are easier ways of dealing with these kinds of things than just insulting us and laughing with the rest of the content creators.

You basically played yourself when you said "you guessed wrong" as if you had the answer when in reality, your head is just up your ass saying something just to be saying it. Obviously when you edited the file, you forgot something in the line of code OTHERWISE THAT ERROR WOULD'VE NEVER OCCURRED.

If you don't know lua, don't try to edit the files, simple. If you want to try to edit the files, make backups, simple, but don't expect support for an error which you yourself caused and not the dev.

If you don't know what the problem was, how can you even remotely begin to act as if Lapin was wrong in his assumption?
Your experience is wrong as an error is an error, and it tells you where it's happening.

I'd fully have to agree with this, it makes no sense to accuse some on of accusing you because you personally fucked up. (Almost had a stroke trying to word that)

Is it me, or does he make it sound like being a "Content Creator" is being some kind of cult member where they all look down and mock the users? "How dare you dirty users not know Lua!"
Here's a little guide I made.
For content creators:
- Add disclaimers with your scripts of what you can and cannot edit. Although at the moment I have nothing on GmodStore, I do this myself as friendly reminder for people to understand what boundaries you will help them to.
- Have a README or help document. You should already have this with your scripts. If you don't, add one.
- Have as many reasonable configurations to your script as possible. This will help minimize people trying to diy your code therefore less issues will occur.
- Allow people to ask questions on possible modifications but only point them in the right direction, this will at least give them something and you will not need to hold their hand. (Note: You should remind them that you are only giving them a lead, not step by step directions.)
For customers:
- If you do not know lua, don't edit lua.
- Be polite to your content creators, we aren't out to get you.
- Try to explain things in the fullest to avoid miscommunication. If you cannot explain the issue within a ticket, then politely ask them if they would look at the situation first hand.
- When you are told to do something, do it. Doing otherwise makes any help you are being given useless.
** Remember that this only helps when both people are level headed. If you have a bad customer, you can't do much. And if the content creator isn't responding or is being difficult, then you should contact a moderator.** Hope this helps, let me know if there's anything you think I should change.

D O I T
If you won't, then i'll just close the ticket, if you're cocky and act like your """""Lua dev""""" is better than me then he can fix the problem for you.
We're not like AAA companies, we can't hire ultra nice people who will get handle the tickets for us.
You're speaking directly to the guy who will fix your problem, so don't be an idiot.
Well i know keith personally and he is not like any of you guys in LUA but he certainly is not bad. He edited all the other scripts to match our theme but this one was causing some problems. I am gonna go ahead and assume you guys read the screenshot, the script owner replied with "U edit it in a bad way, why do you need to edit it?". Which completely does not make sense. Instead of fixing the problem he just basically shit on him plus i didn't get the "why do you need to edit it" part since of course we were gonna have it themed like all our other addons. Some of you are gonna say "Oh then don't edit it" well i get it but it's not something major its the colours.
Well, your buddy boy instead of simply replying to the question went the '' your script doesn't work, its not my blame '' route.
Im pretty sure the Dev would simply assisted him if he asked how to change the ui colors KINDLY.
I find it funny that the person who creates the ticket states that the lua error is not always correct but also states that he doesn't know anything of Lua. Most common errors are typos, no matter how good you are you are still human. You also say that content creators attack you while he is clearly trying to help you where you respond on with an attack towards him.
I would deny to help you any further as you are clearly not willing to cooperate.

I asked him in order to assist him, why would someone edit the file he shouldn't edit?
I wanted to know the reason of the editing, and I would gladly help him if he'd not instantly attack me. Logically speaking: Script works, he edits it, it doesnt work.. Its obviously his editing..

All though we got it to work, it would have still been nice to just ask what is wrong. And he did attack you i don't deny that but if you think about your words you sound like a dick at first. Plus making a thread about this? You could have just let it go. You both are at wrong in your own places.

"Kindly" well if you check he did ask nicely what was wrong.
