How much $$$ would optimizing gm_bigcity cost?

If you guys would optimize gm_bigcity, how much money do you think it would cost for you to do it? I have a popular server and we use this map all the time, but it is a terrible optimization.

Wait you're the guy that owns a Sandbox server that's quite a bit populated at the momment? I was actually playing on it for quite a while today. You should optimize restrictions and playability first. Besides how exactly is gm_bigcity Unoptimized?

Well, for starters. gm_bigcity renders everything. Its hard to explain, here is a good youtube link exampling what I need done

Try using this: https://www.gmodstore.com/community/threads/1_mO0m8BSS6IMWD_cgaaCQ

I guess this would go under map edits?

Considering it doesn't mention anything about map optimizations, it isn't helpful. As for the actual map optimization, I've never played on gm_bigcity, but for starters other than what was said in the video, a basic start would be to add fog to decrease the amount being rendered.

Yah, I guess adding fog would help. I will test it out.

As Luna said, "(More will be added as it progresses)" I'd suggest replying to the topic so they can add it to the list.

I mean decompiling maps essentially break a lot of the map, and all the optimisation has to be done again, as well as a few other things that gets messed up. I'd say you're looking at around $100 or more depending on how long it takes

You can't suggest someone to use a guide when the guide itself doesn't have the information necessary to make an estimate for the cost.

How can it break a lot of the map? Majority of maps use the defaults and let Hammer optimize it, while other maps have had manual optimizations done to it such as those stated in the video. Decompiling a map shouldn't break it unless there was a map obfuscator used on it before it was compiled in which it deters users when decompiling.

I was obviously wrong when suggesting to use the guide as I thought it would be a similar price, I did then say contact the creator of the post to add it to the guide for future reference plus they have created the prices for the other job related sections so maybe they can help out. haha apologies

You're wrong, have you ever decompiled a map before? It leaves behind a lot of mess. If you decompile a map and straight away compile it again it won't be the same. It will have a bunch of visual glitches.

Decompiling a map, yes, even if not "obfuscated"(which is not even how you protect maps)- removes a lot of the optimisation done for it, as well as certain other things that can mess up visuals. It's almost never flawless.

Also never let Hammer optimise the map for you, it does a terrible, terrible job. It's much better doing it yourself by hand.

How has someone just asking how much it'd cost to optimise a map turned into an argument? (Or discussion, if you wanna be like that)

Lol, I just wanted to know the base line on how much this will cost.

In my post I said you'd be looking at at least $100, because of all the pain with recompiling a decompiled map properly.

Edited And let's be honest, the map developer will literally have to dedicate their machine to compile your map again for you. It's a very expensive task. Unless they've got a beast of a machine.
