Bring Chat forward In-front of HUD

Last read Never
#1

I am developing a HUD but i have found that the chat is always behind the HUD.

I have used PANEL:MoveToBack() and i have also tried setting the ZPos of the panel but it doesn't work. I think i need to get target the chat panel and use PANEL:MoveToFront() but i dont know how to get that panel.

Does anyone have any solutions?

Thanks

I was asking for any ideas, i wasn't asking for alot.

Im not quite sure what the issue is tbh, if i have put it in the wrong section then my bad... -.-

Yeah, asking for help here is a bad idea for some reason. I advise you visit facepunch, they usually help.

I have bud but i haven't had a reply so i thought that the GMS community would be helpful. Shame because it looks like using the forum is more toxic than i thought.

Both these forums and facepunch can be toxic as each other I am afraid to say.

Yeahh well, i wish i could close this because it aint going anywhere so far but ahh well. If a mod would do that for me, that would be great. I will figure it out and ask some friends, see if they have any ideas instead. Thanks anyway guys.

Try using this to draw the hud https://wiki.garrysmod.com/page/GM/HUDPaintBackground

Hi thanks,

yeah i did try that and it did work well but i found that creating tiles and dividing by 3 gives numbers that are inconsistent when changing resolution. Instead i used DFrames and use docking instead which gave me much more reliability.

I think i will take that and write another version of it using that again and seeing if i can make it work. Thanks!

You should use ScreenScale() when setting positions to match resolutions.

I heard that using that can be an issue when people use widescreen resolutions / multiple monitors so using ScrH() is a better bet and dividing it my 480 or something. I have tried alot to make it easier to create my HUD but its proving more difficult. The current panel method works the best but the chat is hidden behind. Unless i create my own chat replacement, i wont be able to fix it will i ?

draw your hud properly using the HUDPaint hook instead of using derma.

#13

Yeah i'm in the process of rewriting it, its a project im using to try and become better and making HUD stuff xD I'll get there eventually.

It's a learning process.
