Script denied?

Last read Never
#1

I am sorry if I am posting this in the wrong section, but I don't see anywhere where mods are the only one that can view this post.

I got a script denied I made with a friend for "5 second script | poorly coded"

I do not see how its a 5 second scripts, everything written in there is like 80kb of size total (this excludes the mysql wrapper) and I used a lot of time. The script idea is simple yes, but I attempted to make it very accessible to the average user, an example of that is the ingame configuration.

Regarding poorly coded, I can't really argue a lot against that, I am aware that some things could be done a lot better, but if you could examples of what it'd really nice!

Tl;dr

Disagree with 5 seconds script, poorly coded seems fine to me. Please tell me what I can do to get it accepted.

Scriptfodder staff seem to slap that response on a lot of scripts that get submitted (from what people tell me), try re-submitting and maybe a different staff member will have a different opinion of it.

EDIT: Not sure why this got so many downvotes... That exact reponse is copy and pasted to a lot of submissions, it's even been put on my own (its actually been correct to put on my shitty ass scripts).

"Disagree with 5 seconds script, poorly coded seems fine to me." "Please tell me what I can do to get it accepted."

add a bunch of pointless lines that do nothing so it makes it look like there's a lot of code and make the lines look pretty by titling each function with --

or make a script that someone else couldn't make in "5 seconds"

Lexi... erm no..

To the OP: Now that you've posted here, the moderator who declined your script may respond back (can't promise, but it's a possibility). It just sounds like you're new to the Lua scene, and maybe had an idea for something you might have overly-complicated and went about it in an un-optimized manner.

#5

Richard don't tell me you took my post seriously...

#6

Might have over complicated it, true that. I know a places where I'm certain I could improve the code but I will wait for a moderator to point out what's wrong.

It's a dumpster where you can find items in, not absurdly simple as there's already two on here but mine does have more features, and it does have an ingame configuration menu.

Here's a few pictures

The old dumpster addon is awful, I've used this one and it's 100x better. It runs great, the setup is so simple, and I really enjoyed using it. It's a whole lot better than a lot of other scripts I've seen on here, for sure.

#8

Hrm. well it doesn't look too bad. I've def seen scripts on SF that have less content in them. But I'm sure they had a good reason for just declining it. I'd wait to see if one of the mods post on here, then you should get a better explanation. Until then, you could look at adding even more features, optimize the code, look for better methods for writing it, etc. Maybe place a select-able model option. In all the time I've done SF stuff, some people don't know how to look up model names for things still. May make it easier to sell.

Hmm actually yeah this looks pretty good, the ui looks nice and the options given to the users are really good, it might just be that there's already other dumpster scripts up for sale

Scriptfodder staff are VERY inconsistent with their accepting/denying of scripts. In all honesty, I hope they sort the team out when Gmod Store is released.

Is it possible that you might have something exploitable on the clientside parts of your code?

I don't think so, used some time on making sure it was secure, but could be wrong.

It validates everything serverside and I dont do net.WriteEntity(LocalPlayer())

Scriptfodder is very random when it comes to script accepting, at the end of the day, it all comes down to the moderator who reviews your script's criteria...

Well, best of luck. This looks pretty good. Better then the others on here imo. Well it for sure looks that way. Hopefully this gets re-reviewed.

Are you talking about the fact that your script was declined when your code was a mess, and your script was able to be recreated in a matter of a few minutes?

To the OP, send it back through queue. From what I recall, the code was a little messy in a few areas, but I think I confused your addon with another one.

Not at all. As I said previously in the thread, my script got denied for good reason. It was complete dog shit, and I would've denied it myself lmao. It was just a case of making my first thing that worked, getting excited and trying to submit it; it was awful.

I am talking about the fact that a number of my friends have had their scripts denied when they've definitely been better than a lot of others on here.

When you speak very vaguely and general like that, it makes it very difficult to take you seriously.

I'd need examples in order to actually defend myself, which makes your argument a poor one.

That shouldn't be a reason for denial, then that would mean every DarkRP hud should be denied.

Eh I suppose, the only reason I said that was due to the fact this dumpster addon seems to be much higher quality and houses a lot more abilities such as the config menu than the others currently present on ScriptFodder.
