Dedicated Hosting Question

I'm currently using a Box from Zare for hosting a SQUAD server and while they seem to be good so far they're quite expensive.. i'm paying £90 for an i7-7700K

What exactly should i be looking for hardware wise for hosting a ~100 slot DarkRP server with ~30 addons? I'm assuming i7-7700K should be fine at running with those requirements however, would it be possible to downgrade towards an i7-6700K or even a i7-4770K/4790K

Alongside the Garry's Mod server I would be running a Xenforo Webstie and possibly a Discord Bot (not that it would take much resources).

Whats your thoughts?

EDIT - Just realized I posted this in the wrong General Discussion. Please move it :)

Sounds like you're looking for 6700/7700. If you really think you need a dedi then you'll probably be paying that much. But if you'd like to settle for managed hosting based on how much CPU you use rather than slots you have I can recommendCrident. On a server like yours you can benefit most from buying by the CPU as compared to slots.

Thanks for the response. Do you have experience with doing this, or not?

I currently run this server using Crident. It's semi-addon heavy with about 60 or so addons and runs a pretty unoptimized gamemode but the Crident 125% package handles it 100% fine with no lag or issues ever in my experience. There's some more info on the Crident website as to why you would choose them over anyone else and they go in depth to per slot payment vs per cpu payment and stuff like that.

EDIT: Just note they don't offer web hosting. You should be able to run your discord bot fine though.

Thanks for the response :) going to contact them directly and see their response on the matter. I'd have to buy separate web hosting but that isn't much of a problem.

In the future you should stick to this sticky so the mods don't have spasms ;)

That sticky isn’t necessarily relevant to the question though?

That's a fair point, but this isn't in the right category regardless ;P

If you are looking for running tasks like a few simple gameservers and a discord bot, I suggest a good VPS from EmperorHosting(love the CEO, great guy) or if you want a full dedi as you say, I suggest Hexane for any sort of other use case. -snipped last bit, just read the hosting review thing please :)-

Best of luck man!

This isn't what the OP is looking for - he wants something unmanaged. Hexane is a budget host. They provide no unique sellings points over Zare or OVH directly - which the OP would be better going with himself & just cutting out the middle man.

Running a gmod server on a VPS is also really not advised for high demand servers - which is what the OP seems to be catering for.

Personally I use the GAME-1 server from SoYouStart: https://www.soyoustart.com/ Super good value for what you get and the 4790k really isn't much of a downgrade from the 7700k.

This is actually great suggestion. I remember Penguin from Superior Servers telling me he couldn't notice a difference from the E3 v3 to the 4790k. That's a larger relative increase in clock speed than the 4790k when compared to the 7700k. I think it's mostly placebo effect enter image description here

If I set it to 1 can I advertise that my servers are 8 times more performant than yours?

If you pop in a ticket on the Zare website then I am sure we can offer you a good deal on a 4790 or 4790k, if you are looking to downgrade.

The same people who tried to tell me GMod servers were multicore because of clientside multi core rendering :/

I think I may have not have came through the way I meant to. What I meant to say was that Hexane was a very good choice for their DEDIs. I do understand they are a budget host, but their machines have a custom mitigation filter directly based towards source protection plus Zare's and OVH's GAME mitigation. Also do note: we do offer unmanaged and managed at the customer's request.
