AI for specific gamemodes!
Hey all!
Not sure if this is the right place to ask this or not, but how much would it be to develop an AI that is capable of playing F2S: Stronghold, at the very least as a simple DM player? If possible, maybe even form teams and raid real players' bases. Anyway, here's a list of things I'd like for it to be able to do;
-Kill players on certain difficulties(easy, average, hard, "WOWOMGHAX0R")
-Use some varying degree of judgement when purchasing weapons(oh boy, this is gonna get hard, isn't it?)
-Form their own teams...alright, alright, god-damn.
-Raid players with atleast 2 spawn points up, and also targetting their comm towers if they have any. They would also be able to collect bounties, just like any other player, and also join the first team that sends them a password.
Personally, I'd be expecting somewhere around $30-40 USD for an AI module like this, but let me know what you would think.
Thanks!
$30-40 is definitely not enough for AI.
No where near enough for any decent developer to consider it. If a developer accepts that major of a task for $40.00, then they are wanting you to send it up-front and then they are going to jet.

Then why is Terrorbot AI $25? Keep in mind TTT can be a more complex game than a simple death-match game such as F2S, so to suggest no decent developer could at the very least make bots combat-effective, never mind raid-effective, is rather ignorant.

because it's being sold...if scripts here were sold once, their price would be way higher

$25 * 52 = $1300 (without fee's)
you're looking at $1000
I'm sure if you found a developer who could create your AI, and you gave him permission to re-sell it to other people, then the price would get cut significantly. But if you're looking at your very own AI that no one else can use, then the price is going to be far far far higher. And keep in mind, the developer who would potentially be re-selling it would have to find a fair market demand for it. Being able to sell it, and only making 4 sells isn't going to be worth it to him, and there's not nearly as many people running F2S, vs say an addon you'd sell for DarkRP.
So to presume that you'd get a $40 AI that only you can use, and a decent developer is going to be OK with that, is fairly ignorant. Developers eat food too ya know, and a lot of them have families they support on this additional income. A developer is not going to spend days working on an AI (and since you're the customer, go back and forth for another day or two fixing stuff, and you giving him 20 tweaks to make because a feature isn't exactly how you want it AND I assume support as well in case anything explodes), just to buy him and the wife 2 large pizzas (and maybe some soda if you go to the right place).
Few thousand dollars with the whole not being able to resell stuff in mind, especially with the stuff like raiding bases that you're talking about. We had a discussion about the whole "why is this $25" stuff that you can find here, e.g. if Richard would have sold Arivia privately for even a price like $100, he wouldn't have gotten nearly as much as what 2700 sales at $7 would get him.
Alright, maybe just a simple deathmatch AI with varying difficulty degrees that can be set manually and/or automatically based on player population.
EDIT: And public, too, seeing as the above is very general and can be applied to any gamemode where the main objective is death-match. It can help with giving players something to do while waiting for real players to join.
You are still not getting this done for 40 bucks or anything close to that amount :/
Exactly as Crap and the other devs have said.
To be fair, a lot of the developers on this site already under-cut themselves greatly, because this IS garry's mod, and most communities aren't going to spend $30.00 on an F4 menu, so we make it up in volume. Not to mention, if the script has issues or the customer decides to not use it anymore, $5.00 is easier to swallow VS $30.00, otherwise we'd have x20 the amount of paypal disputes we already deal with. But when it comes to "out-of-box" scripts such as bot AI, it's more of a specific type of script.
There's a reason why you don't see gmodstore and the steam workshop flooded with Bot AIs like you do all other crap. So with this in mind, $40.00 won't do much of anything, and if money is an issue, the only thing I can recommend is taking some time to learn Lua and doing it yourself, or find a developer that is willing to help now and maybe find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow after the server gets going (just don't post it in our jobs section if that is your method of payment). But to talk bots with (as I've said before) a good developer who is going to actually do the job properly and it be worth his time, that price is going to have to go way up.
If you DO find a reputable dev to do this for an extremely low amount without the possibility of re-sell, then you just found the nicest developer on earth, and my advice is to take him to dinner and put a ring on that fucker, if he asks you for a sex change, do it.
I will close this in 24 hours if there's no need for further discussion, I think we've made our point.

for $40 you'll get an ai that prints hi in chat when players walk near it maybe
