Dev blog 01/06/2018 - Statistics, API and more
Dev blog 01/06/2018
In the last couple of weeks we've mainly been working on optimizations and improvement on existing features. A bunch of the stuff is not visual which is why we haven't had a dev blog in a while.
Josh's work
Josh has been working on the new API, the documentation has not been written yet but it's a proper RESTful API as opposed to the current API.
The current API will remain operational with some deprecated features as of v3 for about a month after release. From then on it will be removed and the new API will take it's place as well as retain the /api/v2 URLs to ensure we don't break things twice. It will be encouraged to swap from /api/v2 to simply /api when this change comes around however.
Another feature Josh has added is a way to block a user from messaging you, as well as block them from purchasing your addons.
Aside from this he has added a way to tell if someone has read your support tickets and left you on read, for both developers and customers. There has also been a revamp in how we store addon "views" so we can give you better statistics about how many times your addon has been viewed in the last day or month.
Marcuz's work
I've been working on refactoring how we store transactions to ensure that we can add new payment gateways in the future when we get a wallet system rolled out, as well as make it easier to display valuable statistics to developers and ourselves.
Ontop of this I've been working on statistics for content creators and their addons. Due to how all data is stored it became a challenge to display them in a meaningful way without sacrificing load times. Because of this we had to come up with a solution. I present to you: using Python in PostgreSQL to calculate statistics asynchronously. Using this approach we can improve it in such a way that all pure number statistics can be grabbed using a single query, and very quickly at that.
For other query based data where it was possible to combine everything into a single query we've utilised PostgreSQL's feature called "materialized views" to reduce load times of a query by more than 99%. You heard that right, 99%! This may differ in production, but in a windows dev environment within a VM the query time was reduced from 750ms to 700μs. That's a huge difference! Of course a materialized view has to be refreshed manually, which is easily done through Laravel's event scheduler.
Creator statistics
Here are some pictures of placeholder stats of what the creator statistics will probably look like once the backend code is finished (these numbers are placeholders):
Addon statistics
Here is how roughly what addon statistics might look like
A new design attempt
I've also messed a little bit around with some design changes. I would like to know if you prefer the new look of the frontpage to the old one, here's the new one (you can find the old one in a previous dev blog):
Keep replies civil. Questions and feedback is okay, but flaming or spamming is not.
nice
"The best vehicle mod out there" <3
Also I love the new statistics look.
Yes, in-depth statistics! Now I don't need to use my inaccurate half-assed shit attempt at my own. Oh, and the changes to the home page is a lot nicer!
Good shit, the hype continues.
Edited Although I have a question. The scripts on the home page that are discounted have a box with the -x%, the blue price next to them is their none discounted price right? If so it might be helpful to display the discounted price somewhere, like you do currently on the live version.
Nice stats pages, love it!

Stats look really dope. Looking forward to that.
On the topic of the home pages, both are good looking, but I do prefer the other one by a small margin. The background on the new one throws me off.

Yeah, probably gonna end up swapping the background. Just not sure what it should be yet. I really enjoy the background extending down from the navbar however.
not sure if this is already implemented, but it would be nice: Timed sales. So you can put in a discount for x amount of time to where it automatically goes back to the original price. its easy to forget if ur doing a week sale or something lol
Another neat feature would be: If person owns script X script Y is at a discount.

Timed sales will be a feature at some point. Currently we do have timed sales but they are only created by the moderators/administrators, and are opt in per script, per sale.
You will be able to create your own timed sales for your teams later on, not sure if it makes it to v3 release. Maybe Josh wants to do it while I deal with all this other stuff that has to be done.

Awesome, keep it up guys!
dope af, looking forward to this shizz
NicE!
Can we get support for bundles? Where we could release for example a bundle sale of 4 addons that are 50% off, when purchasing your own all the scripts.

It's planned, but it looks like this feature will not be implemented for the first version of GMS.

Also, there will be a separate bundle area - which mean they will not be in the addon listing from what Marcuz said.
