ShareX Custom Uploader

Last read Never
#1

I've been thinking of setting up ShareX for my domain since I currently use Gyazo. I'm looking for someone to point me in a direction to start. I've searched it up but the ones I use do not work.

All you need is a simple PHP script. I made one roughly a month ago with support for browser uploads as well.

I could share the ShareX part. =)

Thanks. But it was returning the PHP script. I found out it was a problem with my host. Thanks everyone.

If you're still looking for a solution you can use FTP uploading in ShareX.

#6

Nah its fine. I got it.

#7

Wow thats nice. Actually convinced me to switch over from puu.sh/puush.me to ShareX using this System

#8

Yeah you can add it to your own domain like mine: i.stargaming.site

That's generally slower than through PHP.

I dont see why people are rating this dumb. I've also tried FTP and it was actually slower, also the author of that php script also states so:

you can use s3 as well if you don't want to host stuff. Quite nice, you only pay for what you use and don't need to worry about backing up and all that

If you don't understand something, sometimes you should look at WHO is doing it.

FTP:

Take screenshot Attempts connection to FTP Verification methods (these take a while sometimes to respond) Connected (depending on host response time, so obviously can very) Queue File Send File File finally uploaded

Using a php script (or any script for that matter):

Take screenshot Send file to a simple php script File uploaded

Simple terms: php wins w/ performance Same thing happens with hosting sites like imgur n' shit, goes through a script and then is uploaded. end o' story

Keep in mind you're just swapping out FTP protocol for HTTP protocol. This doesn't make it quicker a priori, in the end you have the same thing going on:

PHP script over HTTP (i'll assume https):

  1. Initial connection
  2. Key exchange
  3. Send File
  4. Start a php process, php verifies the request, validates and checks if it fits with configuration such as max upload filesize
  5. Take file save to disk and all

Not complete or entirely accurate depending on configuration, just don't forget that if you're using http instead of ftp you don't instantly get free performance, depends entirely on the configuration. FTP can be really fast as well after all it's designed for file transfer unlike http. The time in the end depends mostly on the round trip time and how you authenticate. Don't think it matters much for a single file anyways and you have a bit more setup to do if you do it via a script instead of just plain ftp.

If you upload files that are bigger than a certain size you need to use FTP. For images, sure use PHP. But imagine you're uploading a file that takes more than 30 seconds to upload. That exceeds PHP's default timeout value. It just feels hacky to change that.

Honestly me too. I don't use it too often, but when I do, it's so great!
