Weed plant models - dev's input needed/what would you prefer?
Right so I already know loads of people have made many different types of plants but tbh most of them look like 'twig' plants. Examples are can be found here, here and here. More examples can be found by typing in weed plants gmod and you'll be presented with a wide array of poor quality models, crap textures etc. Now I'm not trying to say that I'm the best 10/10, but these models all lack quality and I believe that I can provide.
Now what I'm proposing to do is spend a small time every week building a prop pack which has proper textures, good quality models for developers to script in their own time and sell on. Now the main issue I see often with weed plant models are the stages. Often there are around 5-8 stages for weed plants and so I wanted to do something better than this.
Would people prefer a growing animation where its just one continuous animation so it would start as a small bud/leaf and then grow slowly into a fully developed plant or would people prefer having stages for each of the plants?
From a developers perspective, I would like to know what would be easier to control? The single growing animation would essentially be one giant SMD file and the question is, is the animation playback speed controlable with Lua? If so then most likely I would do this type of animation instead. This makes it everything look more appealing as dev's can simply slow down and speed up the growth animation, for example if the plant was given water, it would steadily grow (the animation would play back slowly) and would stop until the plant needs attention.
This would be a long project however since I am getting very very busy with university but I would like to see this as a good experiance at modelling organic things since I'm more profient in modelling hard surface objects (as found in my portfolio).
Now although its just one stage, It would help me out if my question recieved some input from all the dev's. Would it be better to animate a single SMD file so that using Lua, you guys (devs) can control the playback speed of the growing animation OR would you prefer using 'blocked' stages of each growing process? The template I'm following is something similar to this:

The reason to why I'm doing this is because I've been asked over a million times to make weed plant models and I've said no many times since I would prefer making a proper solid pack of good quality models instead of a private collection of assests since business wise, it'll make sence in the long run. I'd also prefer if this topic could stay serious without it turning into a shitfest like most threads do, thanks.
I didn't read the whole message because i'm lazy, if you're asking "what is the besting thing for you (lua devs) to make it looks nice"
Make one bone for the growing part, and attach bodygroups to it, to we can make it grow and change the appearance.

Wouldnt bodygroups be the same as just having different model files? (aka smds) Unless you mean having different body groups and having the animation grow to each of the bodygroup stages to give the illusion of it growing
Wait no i said shit because it's not going to look nice.
The best way (but not the easiest) would be :
Each leaf have it's bone. And it's bodygroup, so we can easily hide a leaf and then make it grow.
But it's going to be hard to make this shit grow.
So just make one plant, with 10 bodygroups or 10 differents models, because no one is going to sit there and watch the plant growing for 20 mins

Each leaf having a bone, thats gonna takes ages to do and I doubt it'd be time effective. I think i'd be best doing stages then so the old method. I think adding more stages closes the growth gap so itll give it a smoother transistion so 10 models at the moment should suffice.
inb4 someone release a procedural tree generation module
