"A lot of developers started to obfuscate their addons" - so you showed 3 addons by the same person enter image description here

Edited And again, this comes down to asking creator politely to add config options for translation or a non-obfuscated version.

I will never put an Obfuscated Addon on my server because it's can Contain a Backdoor.

And All servers owners understand my point of view.

You aren't making much of sense, just like your grammar.

You do realize you can ask the dev to give you a non-obfuscated version?

you're more likely to get backdoored by unobfuscated addons via workshop as we've seen recently

Why are Obfuscated such a problem? I don't mind that the seller wants to protect his product from illegal use and copying. They put their time and effort in this and people who buy this want to keep the exclusivity of the addon. This is offcourse only if the addon creator actually gives reasonable support.

If we put backdoors in our addon(s) we get banned

we're here to make money, not to get banned

the "i don't like obfuscated addons because i want to be able to edit it" is a shit excuse, no one is going to obfuscate the whole addon, there is no reason to obfuscate the client part, for the other part, ask the dev to add hooks to be able to "customize" the addon without touching the code.

It's like the guys saying DRM are bad, and when you ask them why they only give shitty reasons like "when i don't have internet .. blahblah ", well nigga it's 2016, get internet.

nigga just want to crack games, nothing else

Deal with it.

Why not just "Forbid Obfuscated Addons" ?That's the key to all the problems we're having..

what problem? half of the scripts now-a-days comes with translator configs and everything else, why do you wanna edit the source code of everything, if someone edits the source code of my script I declined them support cause they should only be using the config. along with that backdoors are the least of your worries cause even a script like CAC can do it's scanning magic and find it ezpz

You tested a obfuscated addon that had a backdoor with CAC?

Old server, we had CAC and we downloaded and extracted an addon (which is gone) from the workshop and cac detected a backdoor, the file CAC detected was obfuscated but it still pointed to the exact location and what it does. just gave him superadmin if his steam username ever joined the server according to CAC

It was a ttt script that had a backdoor in it can't remember the name.

I own my fair share of servers and I don't give a shit if they minify/obfuscate their code, as long as there's a reasonable config. Plus backdoors are rare because there are a lot of people who scout the workshop items and usually get reported on FP a lot.

Most of the content creators that use DRM have no malicious intent at all... The whole point in the systems is to protect our business, and to manage those who try to cause harm to it.

On top of that, any coder with enough advanced knowledge can hide a backdoor in plain sight and you'd still breeze over it due to how it's written. No matter what you're at risk of having your server backdoored, however, any person to do it on ScriptFodder is just plain stupid.

I think you're exaggerating this issue, I trust SF mods to make sure there aren't any backdoors in the addons.

no. this'll just make it easier for skids to leak scripts.

How exactly does obfuscating code prevent someone from leaking it?

Honestly I think obfuscation is dumb, all it takes is someone with half a brain to deobfuscate. But that doesn't change the fact that the only harm obfuscation does is prevent customers from modifying the scripts they bought. If you're afraid of backdoors in obfuscated addons, you should be afraid of backdoors in all addons.

Byroastchickenat 10th of September 2016 16:29:31it takes is someone with half a brain to deobfuscate

people posting on LeakForums typically don't have have a brain or any coding experience required to deobfuscate Lua - therefore making it harder to leak a script. not impossible.

Deobfuscating is not a requirement to leaking an addon. If a paying customer can use an obfuscated script, so can anyone who downloads a leak.

the point is securing source code. if you want them not to be able leak a functioning script then go make a DRM.
