What do language do you think will get you the furthest in life as of 2019?

I personally have good faith in Python and C#.

C# is getting quite popular, yeah. By bet would still be PHP. Everyone knows it, everyone needs it.

PHP is big gay.

I worked a bit on c# for 6 months two years ago, started using it again few months ago.

Lua is big gay compared to c#

I guess the IDE is part of the job, there is nothing really official for Lua, even when using GLua Linter, you won't get close to VS

This really depends on what you need to make.

If you know C#, PHP, Python and JS all pretty well, then you're already pretty much guaranteed a job within a whole bunch of different companies.

In terms of what language will get you furthest in life it depends on what you want. Python is very useful for machine learning, C# for applications, PHP or JS for web. JS can also be used for applications, but I would not recommend it as they all require an instance of webkit/chromium and that's annoying.

I'd go with C#, can be used for most things really, except it's not all too nice for web.

Again, it's not about learning a language because it's easy to learn any language, it's about understanding how the whole thing works.

javascript :)

Once you know a few of them you pretty much know all of them. To start, I'd go with C# or JavaScript.

this is an interesting read. It goes through languages on declines and languages on the up & coming, definitely worth looking at!

Am I the only person who's going to suggest Rust?

It teaches great practice :)

Start with Lua or Python. Both are easy and versatile. Then move to more specialized languages.. if you want to be a web dev, look at php, nodejs, or more python with django. If you want to be a general purpose programmer, C++ is king.

+1 for Python. It is used in many fields including web development and machine learning which aren’t going away anytime soon. It is also easy to learn the basics and has a large selection of modules for just about anything.
