Developers giving the site a bad reputation

Hey so i've been here and used the site since scriptfodder and was intially happy with paying and compensating people for their time working on these "premium" addons for garrysmod, however it seems with the test of time the developers are becoming greedy and dont really want to support their products, not really expecting anything to be done just wanted to start a discussion here about what people thing about this kind of stuff.

No im not saying 12 year support contracts like microsoft with windows xp, just basic common sense and decency so far and bussiness practice ive never been more skeptical about this site seeing all my apparent $240 worth of addons slowly but surely become deprecated stop working stop support and bring out a new version...

My recent is with mgang for example, I bought this a while back with dlc and at first he promised upadted and deprecated the dlcs and did a few updates, hes not just full blown canceld mgang and goen to mgangs 2 and left a disclaimed about how he gave ppl 48 hours to get it for free, I wasnt notified its just really shoddy i think and defentialy makes me more skeptical and feel like the only winners in the transactions are devs and leakers, the purchasers basically, fuck you.

Other peoples thought on this stuff?

I'm guessing a mass message was sent out at least so checking gmodstore or email didn't notify you?

Im not sure like im not expecting him to give it me ive told him that in a support script n asked nicely but im just saying this kind of behaviour makes me skeptical about using the site as a whole even though its just 1 guy and 1 case here its actually the 3rd script for me now and just feeling like the ones who bought it are the ones who get shafted other examples are billyslarms and mysql ticketing system

Generally most of the content creators on this site will give you the updated version of a discontinued script for free if you pm them.

However, I don't like it how sellers retain rep and sales numbers for scripts which have been removed from sale.

Billy's Alarms is a 2 year old product which was discontinued because it wasn't getting enough sales and it didn't work on every single map (due to inconsistency in how people make doors.) The script worked absolutely fine for the only 134 customers in the period where it was for sale. This is just how my business works, and quite frankly, it's none of your business. You had a working product for the whole time it was for sale, but if the script isn't worth my time then it's not worth my time - I'm not going to work on it when I have better things to invest my time in.

If someone, or any company decides to discontinue a product, they have no obligation to provide support for it or fix it afterwards if it breaks if there are no contracts saying so. You literally agreed with this yourself in your own ticket, so I really don't understand why you are whining here. There is no guarantee a script is going to work forever, and this goes for any software out there. As I stated in our ticket, an example of this is Windows XP which does not get updates or support. Sure, it may have contracts to uphold, but there are no contracts in this context.

The site is not getting a bad reputation from these small minority of scripts that have been "abandoned." The developers who made them are. Stop over-dramatizing.

You are however right about people bringing out new versions. That is totally unfair. One example of a person who did this was aStonedPenguin, who made pLogs, which was a broken mess (according to reviewers) and then made pLogs 2 and uploaded it separately and IIRC made everyone buy it again. I don't understand how he got away with that. I'm sure that if something like this were to happen again in the gmodstore era it would not go unnoticed and there would be action taken by staff, so I would highly doubt that the site's reputation would be affected. But coming back to Billy's Alarms, I have no intention of updating it or making a new version of it.

And please fix your grammar for god's sake, didn't you learn to use commas in primary school?

This is because your -rep should stay if you've actually fucked people over. If you've sold a product and you've not bothered to fix it the whole time you were selling it you deserve any -rep sticking around. However, I would agree that +reps don't really deserve to stick around but that's a complicated issue and seems to be something that should be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Hmm, I disagree. Why should a creator not retain the rep he earned for something he made that was successful for whatever time he was able to support it? What if, for example, freeman couldn't support VCMod any more and disabled it / discontinued it? Should he lose all his reputation and sales numbers because of it, despite doing good work for the time it was up? Idk, just feels dirty to consider taking away peoples fair reputation.

Yeah I can agree with this, but your example is VCMod; the #1 script on the site. It would make sense for reputation stuff like this to be handled on a case-by-case basis, but I don't think that has been necessary, yet.

I haven't depreciated mGangs original, nor have I stated that, at all. I still plan to continue development on it, regardless if mGangs 2 is released. It's so server owners have a choice between more options instead of just mGangs 2 - and because abandoning a project people paid for isn't right?

Also, yeah, I have been giving mGangs 2 to mGangs original owners. The ones who I did give it to, actually approached me and patiently waited for my response instead of berating me in a ticket and immediately putting 1-star reviews on all of the scripts they purchased from me. You can't just be a douchebag and expect to get everything handed to you. You're not entitled to anything.
