Not accepting French jobs, what is wrong?

Last read Never

Ladies and gentlemen, bonjour.

I have been told several times that jobs posted in French are not accepted on this "new" website gmodstore. I cannot accept that, this is really nasty against us native French speakers. We do not have a French-speaking almost safe platform where we can find developers to hire. You know that, your ban policy, etc.

I'm not here to say that gmodstore is not a good place, so thanks baguette haters, you were wrong. I think I'd rather suggest serious modifications that could bring happiness to anyone who is not a native English speaker, and I'm not just talking about French.

Well, I would really like gmodstore to add the possibility to translate a job into multiple languages, exactly like the Steam Workshop. And just depending on the browser preferences (Accept-Language HTTP header) you select the best available language to display. Also you may want to add an automatic English translation for informative reasons and for curators to understand the subject.

In the jobs list you can display the language flag if it matches with the user's preferences or you display a struck out English flag otherwise.

After this, anyone could easily hire a developer who share the same native language, a real dream isn't it?

As a temporary measure, I suggest you curators to accept a language tag prefix such as [es] for Spanish or [de] for German.

Well, in the honesty post-scriptum, let me tell you that I'm sick of seeing internationalization lacks and sometimes conflicts. Personally when I do some content, I do it in English and then I translate it into French. But this is different here because you hire a person. Always use Unicode character sets and allow for multiple languages.

Momo

This has literally been a rule since the site came out 3 years ago, not just new.

The primary language on this site is English because more people use it than French and it's pretty much the most common language in the world.

There's no telling if the administrators will want to integrate a translate system, especially for all the work it'll take, the real gmodstore process is already taking forever.

I don't get what you're trying to point out, your job got deleted cause it wasn't in English obviously you got that point, just cause the reason is humorous doesn't mean anything.

Imagine being a curator going through hundreds of jobs deleting them because they're all in French, it gets annoying, so I don't blame them for trying to spice things up with a little bit of humor.

did you type it all out in french? kinda what happens when you dont provide english translations. I believe this is due to everyone pretty much learns English; which in return keeps the site open to pretty much the world that want work.

edit: this also exists for the marketplace also, why should the job section be any different? if you've noticed some marketplace scripts also have a french translated area. But they're all in English no matter what.

Then don't make jobs in French... Making the job in French just proves you never read the rules when the first rule listed is that English is the language used on this website.

Let me tell you my opinion in another way:

How can gmodstore pretend being a reference of the paid work on Garry's Mod (see website domain & reputation) if they do not even let a client choose the language of the hired worker?

This is almost insane. Here I'm rather oriented in favor of French because it's my language. But it applies to any language that is not English too.

Speaking french to non-french speaker is simply rude. I have no idea why but most of the french people are self-entitled assholes and they think that WE should go their ways. What do you expect us to do? Learn french? Aye piss off, how about you all learn proper English instead of pushing your selfish ideas on us? Not speaking about self-called heroes which leak shit out and scam users, most of the problems I have had with any customer, it turned out he was french.

"How can gmodstore pretend being a reference of the paid work on Garry's Mod (see website domain & reputation) if they do not even let a client choose the language of the hired worker?"

Have job in both of the languages, english and french, and if you don't wanna speak with english devs, then just don't accept their application if you can afford throwing people willing to do job away.

[en] I agree with Momo, often I see hatred towards francophones, after I myself myself have already spoken 100% French, but to the point of being insulted? We are not here to insult ourselves, we are there for several purposes, to develop scripts, to improve his server ... So instead of insulting oneself why not talk to each other kindly and help each other to To fill our gaps in some living languages as well as programming languages? Make love not war <3 (thanks google translate)

I'm not trying to create more drama but you're acting exactly like some people from a specific religion who just complain for shitty reasons instead of acting like everyone else.

English is the international language, gmodstore is an international website so you need to speak english even if it's not a british-only website.

No one ask you (i'm not talking directly to you) to have a perfect english, frenchies need to stop being under assisted breathing.

If you can't speak english, don't go on gmodstore, because you won't be able to read the addons descriptions, read/write jobs.

Because this site isn't just formed around jobs, it's mainly for the marketplace which allows developers to add languages themselves.

The job section is 90% english and 10% others that get deleted. Popular > unpopular

This is almost insane. Here I'm rather oriented in favor of French because it's my language. But it applies to any language that is not French too.

Like I said, English is the most common language, hell people should be learning it since it's so popular, it's almost like a critical need in life to know how to speak English. Just cause we're online doesn't make it any different.

It's not mine. I do not work on this website myself. Yeah, it was written only in French, which is totally obvious if you want a French-speaking worker.

if you've noticed some marketplace scripts also have a french translated area. But they're all in English no matter what.

Well, gmodstore is unfortunately the only market place that is well-known and that bans scammers so well. For safety reasons, any of us would choose gmodstore. And you probably know what I mean with scammers: paying a insane fee for a blocked payment.

I was the one who removed the job.

I am a big advocate for localization but you have to understand that speaking English makes it easier for everyone; it is an absolute pain to deal with people writing in their native language or an absolutely broken; Google Translate-level English. Actual money is handled here and misunderstandings can quickly happen due to miscommunication. Ensuring everyone speaks English at a comfortable level is ensuring people don't start a claim/chargeback because they failed to understand a job/script description.

Edited Also consider that until recently, the gmodstore staff had no French-speaking member so imagine having to deal with exclusively French-speaking people complaining about their script not working/being scammed/whatever in bad English. I mean jesus you start learning English at the age of 6 so I'd expect you to have a decent level.
