Under 18 Paypal account closures
Hello. So I've made this thread due to an issue thats going on with Paypal. Just today I've had my Paypal account closed due to it breaking the TOS of Paypal's age sign up requirement.
Now although I'm 19, I had to send them some documents to finish the completion of my business account setup and whilst doing that, they came to the conclusion that my account was made when I was 15. Now the issue here is I didn't realise they had this system since I thought everyone does this anyway. I tried convincing them that this account belonged to my old man and when I turned 18, he gave me the login and I changed the details etc... but they weren't having any of it
From what I've seen, I think this is only a UK related issue since a lot of reddit users are posting the same issue. So if you are found to be using an account you've made when you were under 18, below is what their restrictions are:

This essentially is the same as basically closing your account since you can't recieve or send money, so in theory its pretty much useless at this point. The funny thing is my last call to PP was about removing my linked cards from the old (now closed account), and they stated that they do have the ability to close/ban or reinstate my account but they can't do it due to company policy, so unless you know someone who works at PP really well, theres no chance of getting your account unblocked.
If this is an old issue then this can be ignored but this has been sparking up recently with the UK community, so just a heads up, if you were under 18 when you made your paypal account, there is a possiblitly that PP may investigate your account if you try to setup a business account.
this happened to my old account.
currently I have an account in my mum's details. It hasn't been limited yet
I'll just make myself a personal account when I'm 18.

Im quite suprised they decided to clock now after 4 years but its only occuring once you upload documents, proving your identity to prevent fraud and laundering. Annoying thing is I saw a reddit post a day before this all happened about how PP are taking action against this under 18 accounts and thought nothing of it. I really couldnt avoid this since they needed me to submit documents within 48 hours otherwise they investigation into my account would be taken further to see if I was doing anything dodgy (which I wasent) so the end result would have been the same :/

Same situation here, but jeez it becomes a serious issue dealing with charge backs and such. Have to ring me mum all the time for her info.
That's so dumb for them to block you now that you're of legal age. They can fuck off.
Happened to me, you just have to make another account. They don't allow you to unlock your card or anything though, luckily I didn't use my own.
I now run a business account and a personal account, so you'll be fine there.

Business or not, it still requires details ~ if not they'll ask for it sooner or later. Don't be fooled into thinking you've hit the safe mark yet as they will bite you in the ass. Only thing I can recommend is just giving your parents details in and make one when you're of the right age otherwise they will suspend you sooner or later.

I had my 2 debit cards and 2 bank accounts connected. I tried to reconnnect those 4 into my new account but couldnt since it was tied to my old account. Went into it to break the connection but it didnt let me so I had to call PP again for the millionth time asking them to unlink everything and it worked. Really unsure to why they lock your cards in
Oh boy, this does make me a bit uneasy. If I contact PayPal after I turn 18 and ask to change my DOB while providing all the required docs, do you think they'll make the change? Or should I just let my account be and use it.
I have a personal one and a business one where both have claimed paypal.me links and my personal one has money. Would it be best to transfer the money out and close the accounts and start new ones or try to get the DOB changed?
Around 3 months ago, I did a friend a favour and deved and maintained his server. Around a month in, the server had some issues and the playerbase was lost. I quit due to not finding it fun anymore and he charged back everything he'd paid me (Around $400). This threw my account into like -$250 and paypal got very upset and kept ringing me. In the end, I had to get my parents to bail me out as the guy I worked for refused to resolve the issue with me properly.
Now my account has a "Money received" lock and I can only get something like $1,600 income before it caps. They want me to submit ID but ofc I can't because I lied about my age ect.. I kinda wanna ring them and see if they'll lift it without me submitting ID, but I worry they'll close my account or something.
At the moment I'm just using the account with the limit however I plan to abandon the account and start a new one at some point. It's the only thing you can do really.
This thread makes me so glad that I am almost twenty years old.
But it also makes me sad that a lot of younger ones then me earn a higher ammount of cash. lol
So just to be sure:
This can only happen if I earn more then 2000 €/$/whatever a month? And if it happens, what about the money on my PayPal account, would I be able to get it back?
I use an account in my mom's name for a reason. It is my account and card that is linked, but it is under her name. I have all of her info (she makes the joke where she hopes i don't go rogue on her) so it won't be a huge deal for me (hopefully).

It depends actually. If you havent sent any documents before that they can use, then im sure if you edit your documents or proof of ID to make it look like you are over 18, then you possibly could get away with it but if you had your DOB as under 18 and they ask for documents, then you do face the same fate as my account but that depends on that £2000 restriction that PP has for unregistered business accounts. Personally I'd just leave it as it is unless you earn over the limited amount they have, then you will most likely have to submit docs which is going to be an issue for you.

Thing is for me right, about a month ago I wanted to move £40 from my PP to my debit card and it said itll take around 5 days. After realising I dont need that money in my debit card anymore, I decided to cancel it. Usually I'd expect the money to come straight back but it didnt. Instead what happened was the money was actually deducted from my debit card and so I called my bank to put in a direct debit claim and shortly after the money was returned. But just yesterday they took the money out again and my PP balance went into negative amount so any money I earned from sales was part of that negative (as it was trying to go back to 0) and so I called PP and they reset my balance to 0 and I said to them that I had some money in my account before I went into negative and they said theyll refund it within a week or so. So long story short, they will refund that amount if your account gets terminated like mine did but I cant say for sure if itll happen since this entire shit storm just happened today.
I got super lucky as I was having a separate issue with my PayPal a year back (the name was under mine and not my Dad's and I was 17 at the time, which meant I couldn't send in his ID as it was under my name) and got my dad to call them up to sort it (the account was at the time saying I needed to provide identity in x days) - and the person who he spoke to changed the name also lifted the restriction on the account even though I hadn't even sent in his identity yet :D
Moral of the story: We probably shouldn't break PayPals ToS...
Just play it safe and create it under your parent's name... It's not worth the risk/hassle
I'm 12 and need my PayPal for my DarkRP donations. I'm trying to buy a new computer! This is outrageous!
Had my paypal closed when I was 17 at coderhire. 20 years old now and still using one in my moms name.

No they won't, they have ALL my details. They have my government ID, billing address', business address, phone number, card number. They even were the ones that told me to make a new account so don't know what you're on.
Edited Just to add, PayPal are very shoddy with their terms, if you've had a good run with them in the past and done good business with them, they treat you well. It is also a good idea to ring back if something you rung them for does not get done, as chances are another rep will do it because they're not lazy. I remember when I got my first account limited because of EU regulations, they then asked me for ID and I submitted it (not knowing at the time 18 was the limit, thought it was 16) and they then shut me down so I started to use my mothers. They then linked me to that via address and surname and shut her down. When I turned 18 all I did was rung up and asked to be unlocked, they refused and said to make a new account. I've made a personal and business, all fully verified within my name and haven't had a problem since. You guys must've had a bad run in or bad luck.
