So here is a debate.
Face-to-face communication.
Teamspeak was awesome, just to talk to people, but the chat was kinda trash.
Discord just is the better all-in-one package.
Teamspeak will always be superior in my opinion,
When you are the owner of a ts server you are in total control of all permissions and everything that goes on within that server.
Whilst i do understand that it looks complicated, but in my opinion allthough it has that look, it's very easy to use once you actually start using it.
Then ofcourse the overall quality of teamspeak is just better and since you are hosting it or having it hosted through a 3rd party company, host, etc
It's most likely to very rarely to the point of never having outtages whereas discord hosts it all itself, which on more than one occasion has made me have connection issues, poor quality and so on.
Also discord uses up more cpu usage and teamspeak doesn't nearly come close to the amount discord comes up to so teamspeak is better to have running on your computer if you want better overall performance.
I will continue to use teamspeak over discord for as long as i can, and in the end if discord ever goes bankrupt or shuts down for whatever reason, teamspeak will always survive.
Overall really comes down to the use case.
Discord is good for more of a platform to be able to talk to your community and have channels where members online and offline will be able to see the information such as announcements.
Teamspeak is mainly better in terms of how much control you get over the voice related options.
In terms of permissions that is a hard one as with Teamspeak there is a lot more options however this is based on a more number based system where roles permissions such as who can join what channel however with Discord you can set permissions dependant on the role its self.
Would not say either is better would just say it depends on what you need to use it for.
Alright so, just to start, Discord is the overall better platform for running a community however has less permission Customization.
Discord Pros -

More widespread
Discord Cons -

Not as many Perm configs
——
Teamspeak Pros -
A ton of permission configuration
More secure
Less downtime/outages
Teamspeak Cons:
Fails to keep up with community requests
Horrible User Interface
No dedicated text channels
No offline message viewing
No direct messaging friends (w/o server)
Not as wide spread
Expensive
No partnership programs/boost programs
Less bot capabilities
Harder to navigate

Overall if your looking for a platform to host your community, set up good bot systems, make it easy for your players to navigate and use, go with Discord. You can set up announcement channels, rule channels, etc.
If you’re looking for something just strictly for voice communication and not so much as running a community with it, use TeamSpeak.
